      STARTING SALARY: $77,480/yr - $118,955/yr. Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, and /or experience.




      Manages all Aviation Section mechanics and oversees the maintenance of agency aircraft. #oj

      Minimum Requirements
      • At least 18 years of age.
      • Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
      • U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card.
      • Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated.
      • No illegal drug usage within the last year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

      • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school AND seven (7) years related experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Related experience to include: fixed wing and helicopter maintenance. Must have successfully completed or be willing to complete two (2) factory conducted or authorized classes on aviation equipment within six (6) months of employment.
      • If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:
        • Two (2) years of direct experience for an Associate Degree
        • Four (4) years of direct experience for a Bachelor's Degree
        • Six (6) years of direct experience for a Master's Degree
      • Must have Airframe and Powerplant License and Inspection Authorization issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
      • Must maintain currency of all certifications.
      • Must have a valid Florida drivers license.
      • Must attend and successfully complete the agency sponsored Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations (LEVO) Training if assignment includes driving agency vehicle. Use of agency vehicle would require appropriate driving history and passing agency biennial driver’s physical exam.
      • Ability to be responsible for determining the airworthiness of agency aircraft.
      • Ability to perform routine inspections to confirm aircraft safety.
      • Ability to oversee aircraft flight schedule to manage flight times in order to facilitate inspections and component changes.
      • Ability to supervise and may perform routine and non-routine maintenance on agency aircraft, to include equipment installations and component overhauls.
      • Ability to inspect mechanics’ work for accuracy.
      • Ability to oversee the aviation maintenance budget.
      • Ability to maintain parts inventory.
      • Ability to negotiate with vendors to acquire necessary parts, supplies, and equipment.
      • Ability to determine which repairs need to be outsourced.
      • Ability to liaise with contract vendors to provide specialized repairs.
      • Ability to verify the hangar deck and all maintenance areas stay clean and organized.
      • Ability to maintain aircraft history and maintenance records.
      • Ability to update aircraft maintenance procedures as necessary.
      • Ability to work closely with regulatory agencies to provide critical records and compliance documentation.
      • Ability to assign aircraft maintenance staff to duties according to workload.
      • Ability to analyze, resolve, or assist subordinates in resolving work problems.
      • Ability to coordinate with Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Greater Orlando Aviation Authority to verify the agency’s compliance with Environmental Protection Agency regulations.
      • Must have advanced knowledge of aircraft repair and maintenance procedures.
      • Must have supervisory/management skills.
      • Must have mathematical skills to include the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
      • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
      • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
      • Must have basic computer skills to include word processing, spreadsheet, and data base applications.
      • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
      • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
      • Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, vendors, and the public.
      Supervisory Responsibilities:
      • Ability to directly manage aircraft mechanic personnel in the Aviation Unit.
      • Ability to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
      • Responsibilities include approving payroll; interviewing employees; developing and conducting training for employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

      PHYSICAL DEMANDS

      While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

      WORK ENVIRONMENT

      While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
