Job summary
Do you want to be part of a team working in brand new, purpose-built theatres providing planned surgery for patients across Hertfordshire and west Essex?
We are looking NOW for talented staff to form the core team that will be the beating heart of the Hertfordshire and West Essex Surgical Centre being built at St Albans City Hospital and set to open in Spring 2025.
More than 4,000 patients will be seen at the hub each year for non-complex orthopaedic, hip and knee surgery as well as ear, nose and throat procedures and spinal injections. Being separated from emergency services will reduce the risk of short-notice cancellations.
This is a fabulous opportunity to play a key role in a flagship collaborative project between the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Herts and West Essex Integrated Care Board.
The Surgical Centre will focus on Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) standards and will be a highly efficient facility, achieving 85% theatre utilisation and operating sessions over an extended 10-hour day, four days a week, with shorter, 8-hour operating session taking place on Friday and Saturdays.
Interviews will be taking place on the 17th October.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for leading a highly skilled and efficient clinical team within theatres, to deliver excellent and safe patient care. You will develop a positive working culture within the theatre environment, driving a productive and efficient facility which will deliver the intended KPIs and outputs.
The role of the Theatre Manager is to lead and collaborate with the team and colleagues, to ensure that all patients scheduled for surgery are safely prepared and the co-ordination of their theatre time is communicated effectively with all clinical colleagues.
You will develop the service to ensure that appropriate protocols and governance are in place and to audit the services regularly to ensure that best practice is maintained.

About the company
National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly-funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care.
