      An excellent senior opportunity for a dedicated Professional Biologist

      The Land Use Policy, Planning and Ecosystems (LUPPE) Division is responsible for leading BC’s land stewardship strategies, supported by science and knowledge, that promote and guide the province’s goals for reconciliation with Indigenous Nations, ecosystem health and biodiversity, conservation of wildlife and habitat and economic diversity and sustainability. The Regional Wildlife Ecologist is a technical specialist position that supports regional planning tables and leads terrestrial ecosystems initiatives related to habitat management, protection and restoration, with a specific focus on forested habitats supporting ungulates and species at risk.

      Job Requirements:

      • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in biological sciences or related field AND a minimum of 6 years of related experience**, or
      • An equivalent combination of education and related experience** may also be considered.
      • Registered (or immediately eligible*) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biologists. Note: Immediately eligible* is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the CAB within six months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be confirmed. If you are not currently registered, advise how you have confirmed with the CAB that you are immediately eligible.

      **Related experience:

      • Experience managing and/or leading complex and sensitive natural resource management issues/projects related to terrestrial ecosystems in a team environment.
      • Experience providing advice within a regulatory regime related to terrestrial ecosystems management.
      • Experience assessing and monitoring terrestrial natural resources.

      Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

      • Completion of Masters degree in relevant field of expertise.
      • Experience in wildlife management, conservation biology, OR species-at-risk management in forest ecosystems, (especially for grizzly bear, moose, bighorn sheep and mule deer.)
      • Experience in the design and analysis of complex ecological studies.
      • Experience working collaboratively with First Nations on complex natural resource management issues.
      • Experience interpreting and applying natural resource management legislation and policy.
      • Experience leading staff in project or field settings.

      Provisos & Willingness Statements:

      • Must have or be able to obtain a valid British Columbia Class 5/7N driver's licence.
      • Must be physically able to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.
      • Willingness to conduct field work in all weather conditions and environments. This may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in camp conditions and operation of a variety of equipment.
      • Willingness to meet safety standards of WorkSafe BC.
