What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Perform preventive maintenance, safety inspections, functional testing, and repairs on biomedical equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and VA policies
- Install, configure, and test medical equipment and systems in clinical environments
- Troubleshoot equipment failures using test equipment, technical manuals, and diagnostic software
- Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities in VA-approved computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- Assist with equipment recalls, hazard alerts, and corrective actions
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Associates or higher degree in biomedical technology or biomedical engineering; OR
- Associates or higher degree in electronics, a field of information technology, or engineering (other than biomedical engineering) AND 1 year of creditable experience; OR
- Completion of the Department of Defense (DOD) biomedical equipment technician training program; OR
- Minimum of 1-5 years of hospital or healthcare experience performing medical equipment maintenance depending on the level applied for
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical literature, schematics, and drawings
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Hold or have ever held certification as a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET), Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist (CRES), Certified Laboratory Equipment Specialist (CLES), or Certified Healthcare Technology Manager (CHTM)
- Familiarity with regulatory agencies' requirements, industry regulatory requirements, and International Standard Organization standards
- Understanding of networking principles and language (e.g., Access Control List (ACL), Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN))
