    • Develops and administers a comprehensive school health program
    • Establishes an accident/injury prevention program to facilitate school safety
    • Assess the health and safety needs of the school environment in compliance with OSHA guidelines, implementing the Blood borne Pathogen Control Plan and other interventions as indicated
    • Establish a communicable disease prevention and control program in cooperation with local and state public health agencies
    • Manage school health records in accordance with Illinois School Student Records Act, providing efficient retrieval of information and other related archival responsibilities
    • Participants in Child Find programs and establishes and manages health-screening programs according to state mandates and guidelines
    • Participants in the development of health-related policies and procedures in compliance with state mandates and current health practices
    • Provide health related classroom instruction as needed
    • Provide and/or delegate direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staff including nursing assessment, identifying health problems, making referrals for diagnosis, and treatment, recommending educational modifications, providing follow-up and evaluation, and maintaining appropriate documentation
    • Develop a medication protocol for safely storing, administering, documenting and monitoring the effectiveness of medication given at school
    • Supervise and/or provide screening and follow-up for deficits in vision, hearing, growth and development, and other physical deficits
    • Maintain accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations and medical conditions
    • Participate as crisis team member and provide crisis intervention for students and staff in the advent of sudden illness or injury
    • Make appropriate assessments and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter
    • Maintain a user friendly and organized health services facility conductive to confidential communication and services
    • Purchase and maintains health and OSHA supplies and equipment as indicated for the health office and school
    • Manage and make recommendations for the health services annual budget and critical needs request
    • Maintain communication with administrators, teachers, other personnel, and parent/guardians to enhance cooperative action, which will meet the health and safety needs of students
    • Initiates contact with and acts as a liaison between the home, school, community health agencies and the private medical sector to enhance the health and wellness of the school community
    • Maintains confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues
    • Participates as a member of the multidisciplinary team in the identification, evaluation and placement of students into special education programs. Writes the health component of the IEP as indicated
    • Recommends modifications of the school program for students who require accommodations due to a health deficit
    • In service staff on various medical conditions of students
    • Develop and maintain current health care plans for students who need special nursing interventions during the school day
    • Mentor school office health staff
    • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License
    • School Nurse endorsement
    • BSN degree
    • Active & Registered RN license in state of Illinois
    • Minimum of three years clinical experience: preferably pediatric, adolescent, community or mental health nursing, and health program management
    • Current CPR/AED certification
    • Illinois Certification as a Vision & Hearing Screening Technician
    • Excellent time management skills
    • Ability to deal with information of a confidential nature
    • Knowledge of HIPAA laws
    • Computer literacy and competency in the use of existing technology
    • Possess the aptitude to provide health assessments and treatment of injured/ill children
    • Prepare and dispense medications per physician order
    • Administer first aid and CPR/AED
    • Maintain a high level of data quality to comply with mandated requirements
    • Review/evaluate student physicals and immunization records for Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) compliance
    • Provide treatment to staff members if necessary
    • Make appropriate referrals to Social Worker for suspected abuse/neglect
    • Demonstrate high levels of flexibility, have excellent interpersonal communication skills, effectively communicate with parents and students, articulation, creativity, organizational skills, confidentiality, maintain a positive attitude and cooperativeness.

    • Crystal Lake School District 47 currently has an opening for a Certified School Nurse, beginning the 2025-2026 school year. This position provides direct nursing services to students and staff members to maximize health and wellness in the school community. All duties are performed in accordance with district/state Board of Education policies and procedures and state law regarding nurse practice.


      DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
