What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Review documentation in same day surgery and observation medical records, accurately assigning ICD-10-CM diagnostic and CPT-4/HCPCS procedural codes
- Abstract demographic and coding information accurately and completely into the EMR
- Resolve coding edits and reminders, correcting issues in a timely manner
- Manage additional coding responsibilities to contribute to candidate for bill goals
- Serve as a mentor to new coders and assist with various coding tasks as assigned
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Minimum of 3 years of acute care same day surgery and observation coding experience
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Certification as CCS, CPC, RHIA, or RHIT preferred upon hire
- Demonstrated maintenance of a high accuracy in abstracting, coding, and DRG assignment while meeting productivity requirements
- Ability to work in a remote environment with strong computer/data entry skills
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience with outpatient and emergency coding
- Familiarity with coding guidelines and compliance
- Previous mentoring or training experience in coding
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Strong communication skills with healthcare team members
