What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Conduct random audits of medical records to ensure accurate coding assignments
- Review and analyze medical records for appropriate diagnoses and procedures
- Utilize encoding and abstracting systems to ensure complete and accurate coding
- Maintain detailed records of audits, results, recommendations, and follow-ups
- Advise coding specialists on coding guidelines and practices as needed
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Associate degree in Health Information Management
- 3-5 years of medical center outpatient coding experience (ICD10-CM and CPT)
- Knowledge and experience with electronic health records and health information management applications
- Relevant certifications such as RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or COC
- Strong understanding of coding guidelines and practices
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Administration or equivalent
- Additional certifications in coding and health information management
- Experience with 3M APC Software claim edits
- Familiarity with CMS' National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) and Outpatient Code Editor (OCE) edits
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting focused on coding quality improvement
