      Introduction

      The Department of Health Services (DHS) , Division of Public Health (DPH) is recruiting for a Communications Specialist within the Administrator's Office (AO).

      This position has the ability to work remotely up to 5 days per week but may be required to report to an office location on occasion to complete certain tasks. This position can be headquartered at one of our central or regional offices . This schedule may vary based on training or operational need.

      Position Summary

      As the Communications Specialist, you will have a primary role in the development, review, and implementation of DPH's external communications strategy, with a special focus on reviewing communications materials and developing a social media content strategy. You will play a critical role in building trust and credibility by ensuring that all DPH materials are consistent, accurate, and high quality.

      Responsibilities include:
      • Serving as the communications liaison for assigned bureaus and offices, by supporting their day-to-day communications needs and development of long-term communications goals and strategies.
      • Reviewing, editing, and revising materials (such as reports, fact sheets, campaign collateral, and emails) to a diverse audience, including the public, providers, legislators, local health officers, and Tribal health directors.
      • Ensuring the Division's communications adhere to DHS style guide and brand standards, plain language, and accessibility guidelines.
      • Creating a DPH social media content strategy, and leading coordination and planning of division-wide content while assisting public health programs in developing and designing social media content.

      Salary Information

      The starting pay is between $31.50 to $35.06 per hour (approximately $65,500 to $72,900 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

      Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as a Communications Specialist - Senior and is in pay schedule and range 07/04.

      Job Details

      All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

      For positions that allow remote working flexibility, working outside of Wisconsin or in bordering cities will not be allowed except in extremely limited circumstances due to the need to report to an office location in Wisconsin on short notice.

      Employees must have access to both a private workspace and secure high-speed internet for remote work option. Mileage reimbursement to the employee's headquarter location is not provided. Remote work flexibility will be discussed in more detail during the interview process.

      Qualifications

      Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
      • Experience writing, reviewing, and editing a variety of materials (e.g., reports, fact sheets, emails, etc.) for different audiences.
      • Experience writing using plain language, clear communication, and adhering to an agency brand and style guide.
      • Experience developing a social media content strategy and creating social media posts on various platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, X, etc.).
      • Experience designing social media graphics using design tools (e.g., Adobe Express, Canva, InDesign, etc.).
      Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
      • Experience creating accessible content and following accessibility guidelines and best practices.
      • Experience planning, organizing, coordinating, implementing, or managing complex projects and processes.
      • Experience with digital platforms and web technologies (e.g., SharePoint, web content management systems, web-based e-mail subscription management systems, graphic design software, etc.).
      • Experience guiding the work of others and leading a team.
