Smithers Midway Labs in Columbus, OH is seeking a Field Technician to join our team! Field Technicians work largely in the field, driving to customer sites and working directly with clients to collect samples in accordance with Ohio Administrative Code 3976 and internal Midway Lab procedures.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
General:
• Follow all internal laboratory and State regulations while collecting samples and driving to and from the laboratory/clients’ sampling site
• Maintain records of samples and transportation data per relevant procedures
• Maintain sampling supply/equipment inventory
• Complete vehicle operational logs and minor maintenance as needed
• Support the laboratory through functions such as organizing, filing of laboratory records, and other duties
• Follow good documentation practices, data integrity principles and safety behaviors
• Ensure proper intake protocols are followed
• Follow all traffic laws
• Coordinate intake activities with Lab Manager
• Perform other duties as requested by management
Sample Collection:
• Randomly select samples for testing using defined Midway Lab SOPs
• Document necessary sample and client information
• Maintain proper chain of custody of the samples from the client to the laboratory , using Metrc manifests and internal sample intake logs and SOPs
• Receive samples and verify appropriate receipt conditions, including weighing sample
• Complete all necessary intake forms (internal CoC, Metrc manifests, transportation logs)
Customer Relations:
• Discuss sampling needs with clients where appropriate (e.g., number of samples, requested analyses, sample information) and schedule sample collection
• Communicate Metrc manifest info, including driver information, return route, ETA, etc.
• Make decisions on the condition of the product during sampling; reject if conditions do not meet sampling standards and requirements
