      HDR is looking to hire an archaeologist in our Phoenix, Arizona office. This is full-time position (Cultural Resource Specialist 1); 40 hours/week are anticipated. HDR’s cultural resources staff works as part of a dynamic environmental compliance team supporting HDR’s infrastructure projects across Arizona and the general Southwest. Minimum requirements are a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology/Archaeology, or a related field, and 1 to 5 years of relevant professional experience. Primary duties will include performing archaeological testing and data recovery excavations; archaeological surveys and monitoring; Class I record reviews and research; contributing to report writing; preparing artifacts and project materials for curation; and other CRM-related activities.

      Primary Responsibilities

      In the role of Cultural Resource Specialist 1, we'll count on you to:

      • Assist with archaeological fieldwork efforts (testing, data recovery, monitoring, survey)
      • Perform record checks, archival research, and review historical maps and aerial photographs in advance of fieldwork
      • Assist with fieldwork preparation
      • Process artifacts and prepare collections and project materials for curation
      • Perform other duties as needed

      Preferred Qualifications

      • The ability to travel with overnight stays for extended periods out of town
      • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
      • The ability to draft sketch maps of sites and complete field forms accurately and concisely
      • The ability to sit and use a computer for extended periods daily
      • A commitment to data confidentiality agreements and professional ethics standards
      Required Qualifications
      • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Architectural History or closely related field
      • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
      • Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills
      • Willingness to work under varied weather conditions
      • Successful candidates must be familiar with field study design and documentation, regulatory framework for cultural resource management, and GIS utilities
      • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
