What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies to ensure high availability
- Ensure data integrity, backups, and disaster recovery readiness for production databases
- Collaborate with development teams on schema design, query optimization, and data modeling
- Support database security and access controls in compliance with Department of Defense standards
- Lead database upgrades and migrations while maintaining documentation and change control procedures
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Must have an active Department of Defense Top Secret Clearance
- Security+ or equivalent certification is required
- Minimum of 7 years of experience as a DBA in federal environments
- Strong understanding of database security and compliance requirements
- Experience with cloud-based database solutions such as AWS RDS or Azure SQL
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or equivalent experience; advanced degree is a plus
- Vendor certifications in AWS, Oracle, Microsoft, etc.
- Expertise in SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL
- Scripting ability in at least one: PowerShell, Bash, or Python
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code and configuration management tools like Terraform or Ansible
