      Department Overview:

      - ACTS -
      Academic Coaching and Tutoring Service (ACTS) matches students in the UW-Madison Division of Diversity, Equity & Educational Achievement (DDEEA) with academic coaches to help them achieve their educational goals. We treat students as individuals with unique strengths and challenges and help them map out their personal pathways to academic success. Our staff and peer coaches serves as mentors and advocates for our students, helping them identify and overcome the barriers they face in their educational journeys.

      - GAEW -
      GAEW's focus on providing graduate assistants, project assistants, and research assistants the materials that they need to succeed in their roles with undergraduate students and the campus at large. GAs/PAs/RAs/ must attend this workshop within a year after their appointment, and it is our intern's responsibility to support the workshops, ensure that all students are getting the correct materials, and help to complete this requirement.

      - Mercile J Lee Scholarship Program -
      The Mercile J Lee Scholars Program administers the Chancellor’s and Powers-Knapp scholarship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The scholarships were established to attract, support, and develop the abilities and potential of academically talented and outstanding individuals from underrepresented groups. Scholars benefit from individualized advising, a supportive peer network, leadership development, mentorship opportunities, and more. In addition to the structured support provided by the programs, scholars also receive a competitive financial award.

      - Marketing & Communications -
      The Division of Diversity, Equity & Educational Achievement (DDEEA/Division), the central convener and leader for campus-wide diversity and inclusion outcomes at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, is seeking a communications Intern. Join an energetic and innovative team committed to the mission of creating a diverse, inclusive, and excellent learning and working environments for all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and partners at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison). Reporting to the Director of Marketing at the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Educational Achievement (the Division or DDEEA), the communications intern will be a strong and creative writer working to advance the work of the Division through written storytelling.

      Qualifications:

      For Communications Intern:
      Education:
      Student must be pursuing a degree in English, journalism, marketing, communications, public relations or related field.

      Qualifications:
      Requirements:
      - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate with a variety of audiences
      - Knowledge of adhering to editorial style guide and ability to review content for accuracy, style, and tone
      - Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail
      - Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
      - Ability to provide writing samples, Interview process may include writing assignments

      Preferred:
      - Experience with Chicago Manual of Style and the Associated Press Stylebook
      - Familiarity with social media planning tools like Sprout Social, Hootsuite, etc.
      - Familiarity with content management systems like WordPress, Drupal, Squarespace etc.
      - Familiarity with project management tools like Asana, Monday, etc.

      For WordPress Intern:
      Education:
      Preference will be given to students pursuing degrees such as computer science, design innovation, communication arts, or similar programs.

      Qualifications:
      Required
      - At least one year experience editing websites in WordPress
      - Working knowledge of WordPress plugins such as gravity forms, Yoast SEO, and Table Press
      - Strong understanding of user experience design and web content accessibility guidelines (WCAG) 2.2
      - Ability to work individually and in collaborative team environments

      Preferred
      - Prior internships or professional experience editing or creating websites in WordPress
      - Familiarity with project management tools like Asana, Monday, etc.
      - Knowledge of Google Analytics (GA4) and Google Tag Manage (GTM)

      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

      MS Office Suite, ability to collaborate, interpersonal skills, time management, communication skills, organizational skills, ability to multi-task projects throughout the semester, subject to divisional needs

      Position Summary/Job Duties:

      (1) ACTS Intern is asked to aid in:
      o Input with creative planning/branding.
      o Construction of flyers for ACTS.
      o Sending email communications to designated email list(s).
      o Attend professional development opportunities diversity forum, student summit and others assigned to help improve career building
      o Open/ close the office and other office admin duties
      o Help support with some data collecting and analyzing
      o The other assigned tasks also encompass other duties assigned

      (1) GAEW Intern is asked to aid in:
      o Compiling email list of all UW-Madison Campus graduate programs/rosters.
      o Compiling slide deck of presentations from offices within UW-Madison for GAEW Workshop.
      o Sending calendar invitations to presenters from workshops
      o Creating and sustaining Zoom links for presentations/workshops
      o Controlling the Zoom features/presentation for the GAEWs (3-hour sessions)
      o Marking attendance for GAEWs
      o Compiling/creating CANVAS course for GAEW Workshop
      o Aiding Luis Pinero, who oversees the GAEWs, in preparing/organizing GAEWs

      (1) MJLS intern is expected to aid in:
      o Greet internal and external constituents who visit the office and inform staff of their arrival.
      o Data entry and proofreading to ensure accurate record-keeping for attendance and budgeting purposes.
      o Assist in office organization and inventory of promotional materials.
      o Send email correspondence as needed on behalf of the program.
      o Print and mail monthly thank you cards to program donors.
      o Assist advisors in meeting prep (e.g., printing nametags, gathering supplies, creating QR codes, etc.)
      o Other duties as assigned

      (1) Communication Intern is expected to:
      o Develops and drafts communication content and assists in the execution of the marketing and communications strategy in support of the DDEEA’s strategic priorities.
      o Writes, edits, and publishes content for various communication projects
      o Provides high quality and accurate writing within desired timelines
      o Pitches and writes content on topics within the division’s established goals and objects
      o Edits and proofreads content as assigned
      o Helps monitor effectiveness of communications through KPIs
      o Other tasks as assigned


      (1) WordPress Intern is expected to:
      o Makes edits and updates to the DDEEA website as requested
      o Optimizes current and new web pages for Search Engines (SEO)
      o Improves and redesigns the overall navigation flow and layout of specific pages to improve aesthetics and user experience
      o Ensures that web content is accessible
      o Tags and adds alt tags to site multimedia







      Physical Demands:

      Able to move around boxes of office supplies, ~10lbs-15lbs
