What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Analyze standard legislative requests pertinent to the department and draft legislative analyses
- Conduct complex research and analysis on politically sensitive policy issues
- Monitor relevant legislative activities and write bill analyses
- Track and ensure timely submission of legislative reports
- Attend legislative meetings and hearings on behalf of the department
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major
- Departmental Analyst 9: No specific type or amount of experience required
- Departmental Analyst 10: One year of professional experience
- Departmental Analyst P11: Two years of professional experience, including one year at the intermediate (10) level in state service
- Departmental Analyst 12: Three years of professional experience, including one year at the experienced (P11) level in state service
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience in studies of proposed legislation and its effects on the public or specific groups
- Familiarity with legislative and public policy issues
- Previous work with MDHHS or other state agencies on legislative matters
- Knowledge of the legislative process in Michigan
- Experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
