      We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Deputy MLA Manager within SHYPS at York Teaching Hospital Microbiology.

      We are looking for a highly motivated, capable and proactive individual to develop and support the MLA team within the Microbiology Specimen Reception.

      This is a very busy and challenging role and the post holder must have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to analyse and prioritise workflow patterns and manage staff, whilst working flexibly in an environment where demands and priorities change quickly. They must also work well under pressure.

      Main duties of the job

      The post holder will work alongside another Deputy MLA Manager and together they will be responsible for the day to day management of the MLA team including dealing with human resource issues, recruitment, sickness management, service improvement, training and to ensure all processes are implemented to the best practice. They will be responsible for motivating and supporting the team and ensuring that they have a comprehensive training package to enable staff to deliver a high quality service.

      The post holder will play a vital role in monitoring team performance . They will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the correct working procedures that will fully support SHYPS and trust policies, and ensure that we have an efficient MLA team capable of processing the large workload that arrives daily.

      The Deputy MLA Manager role is pivotal in improving efficiency whilst maintaining a high quality of work and the post holder will therefore have a sound knowledge and understanding of Laboratory processes, the ability to liaise across sites to identify and assist with service improvement and the implementation of new processes and training.
