- Plan, manage, and implement events and programming for prospects and new donors, working with event managers, marketing liaisons and FRD colleagues as needed. These include: happy hours, Shabbat dinners, volunteer projects, content programs and a range of other mass outreach events.
- Oversee the Community Committee, a group of nearly 100 people in their 20s and 30s who meet 3-4 times a year and have special programming/volunteer projects. They ‘host’ all the social events throughout the year.
- Plan a large-scale signature event (ie: the Hanukkah Party) that is unique from the general UJA happy hours; work with the events management team to implement.
- Oversee a special committee for donors of $500 or more to plan this event. Use this as an opportunity for members of the YL team to get increased gifts and lift up donors who are looking for social, event-planning opportunities.
- Highlight UJA’s work through content enriched programs to educate, inspire, and engage the UJA young leaders’ community in deep and meaningful ways.
- Focus on strategic pre/post event outreach and follow-up to ensure relationships with donors, prospects, and first-time event attendees are cultivated, developed and maintained.
- Collaborate with other YL team members to identify and actively engage constituents across all YL affinity groups.
- Identify and collaborate with young community leaders and social influencers to build new relationships, create ongoing dialogue, and deepen their understanding of UJA-Federation so they can serve as ambassadors for our organization.
- Coordinate with the marketing and social media team to raise the profile of YL and raise awareness of YL community programs among our target audiences.
- Maintain records of donor portfolio and evaluate progress regularly with supervisor.
- Stay current on donors and the social scene and philanthropic landscape for young professionals in New York City.
- Provide support for YL fundraising and engagement events including but not limited to community events in position’s own portfolio.
- Create follow-up opportunities after large scale events to provide attendees with an opportunity hear more about/experience a different version of an area that they are passionate about.
- Raise annual campaign gifts from YL Community prospects and donors at the entry level with a focus on the “dollar a day” $365 level through face-to-face solicitations, fundraising events, phone calls, and written communications.
- Solicit gifts from donors and prospects at the entry/slightly more significant levels to expand fundraising portfolio.
- Empower participants who give one-time gifts as event attendees to become annual campaign donors in collaboration with YL team professional fundraisers.
- Think strategically and creatively about entry-level cohorts to the YL community and implement new strategies to engage these cohorts through programming, leadership, and other avenues to increase the number of gifts from first-time donors.
- Develop strategies to streamline donor engagement and transfer first-time donors into renewals and/or increases.
- As part of UJA’s organizational initiatives since October 7th, help recapture Israel Emergency Fund gifts towards UJA’s annual campaign.
- Recruit and onboard recent college graduates into the YL community. Work with college ambassadors, Hillel professionals, and other on-campus Jewish organizations, as well as with UJA’s CYPL Center for Youth Philanthropy and Leadership, to develop pipelines of involvement for recent graduates.
- Identify, cultivate and steward YL-age children and grandchildren of major donors, working closely with the YL liaison to UJA’s Philanthropic Leadership Group to advance UJA’s broader major donor family strategy.
- Serve as the young leaders’ liaison to another department within UJA to showcase Young Leaders programming and gain insight as how to best implement the broader goals of UJA/FRD into Young Leaders.
- Minimum one year fundraising, sales, or business-development experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills with meticulous attention to detail and follow-up
- Ability to connect with and manage different personalities
- Outgoing personality with confidence in fast-paced, high-pressure settings
- Ability to think creatively and implement “out of the box” ideas
- Proven success in team collaboration and relationship-building
- Self-motivated, self-directed, and proactive in creating new initiatives
- Passionate about the Jewish community and UJA-Federation’s mission
- Familiarity with the Jewish philanthropic landscape and social scene in New York
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Experience in event planning preferred
- Familiarity with UJA systems and programs preferred
Young Leaders (YL) is UJA-Federation of New York’s umbrella community for individuals in their 20s and 30s encompassing all trades and affinities. Throughout the year, YL provides more than 150 opportunities for involvement, including leadership positions, volunteer projects, career-specific programs, overseas journeys, and content-rich experiences. YL provides New Yorkers the ability to help make a positive impact in New York, in Israel, and around the world.
Position Summary:
The Development Associate is an integral part of the Young Leaders (YL) team and will play a role in the engagement, cultivation, and solicitation of donors and prospects in their 20s.
This position is responsible for planning and implementing key programs and events to build a continuous pipeline of prospects and donors to UJA-Federation’s annual campaign at the entry level, particular among recent college graduates and those in their early-mid 20s. Events include: Shabbat dinners, happy hours, volunteer projects, and more. The Development Associate will manage their own portfolio of YL Community events and programs, as well as engage with the broader YL team to support and develop social, cultural, and volunteer opportunities that enrich our ability to expand our young donor base and maximize engagement opportunities for young donors. The opportunities offered to these cohorts will be grounded in the work of UJA-Federation through a range of volunteer, fundraising, social, cultural, educational, and leadership-development opportunities.
The role also manages all aspects of UJA-Federation’s Young Leaders’ Volunteer opportunities, and donor relationships associated with these programs. The Development Associate, in partnership with UJA’s Philanthropic Services team, will help develop new and innovative ways to engage donors through volunteerism.

The salary for this role is $62,400; commensurate with experience and qualifications listed above.
