      The Digital Technology Services (DTS) Senior Human Factors Engineer will work with the Predictive Health Team to design systems, technologies, and environments to optimize human well-being, clinical and operational outcomes, and overall system performance across the Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) network. By applying theory, executing design and evaluation activities, and facilitating productive communication between end users and data scientists, this position will optimize the relationships between humans, best practices, effective workflows and technology solutions.

      Responsibilities

      A day in the life of a Digital Technology Services (DTS) Senior Human Factors Engineer at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

      • Design and/or evaluate systems, using human factors engineering principles to optimize attributes such as usability, quality, safety, cost, and performance.
      • Develop or implement human performance evaluation, investigation, analysis, or applied research protocols.
      • Prepare reports or presentations summarizing results or conclusions of human factors engineering activities, such as testing, evaluation, or validation.
      • Collect data through direct observation of work activities or witnessing the conduct of human performance tests.
      • Conduct interviews or surveys of users or customers to collect information on topics such as requirements,, or interfaces.
      • Integrate human factors requirements into operational technologies.
      • Assess the usability of user interfaces or functional components of products.
      • Analyze complex systems to determine potential for further development, production, interoperability, compatibility, or usefulness across Predictive Health projects.
      • Apply modeling or quantitative analysis to forecast events, such as human decisions or behaviors, the structure or processes of organizations, or the attitudes or actions of human groups.
      • Provide human factors technical expertise on topics such as advanced user-interface technology development or the role of human users in artificial intelligence systems.
      • Develop and mentor more junior colleagues.
      • May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change when circumstances dictate (e.g., emergencies change in workload, rush jobs or technical developments).
      • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
      • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

      Qualifications

      Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

      • Bachelor's degree in Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, Science, Engineering, Cognitive Science, or related quantitative STEAM field.
      • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in human factor engineering.
      • Minimum of 3 + years of experience in analysis, advanced statistical analysis, or predictive analytics.
      • Experience working in a healthcare environment and familiarity with healthcare data types (e.g., EHR, claims).
      • Ability to explain to internal and external stakeholders the meaning of data insights and the rationale for a particular analysis as it was performed.
      • Experience with project leadership overseeing a team of technical experts, with a demonstrated ability for time management and mentorship.
      • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
      • Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms.

      Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

      • Advanced degree such as a Master's or PhD in Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, Science, Engineering, Cognitive Science, or related quantitative STEAM field.
      • Experience working with artificial intelligence in the healthcare environment.
      • Experience in human computer interaction a plus.
