What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Serve as the specialist in direct business taxes, providing guidance and support for complex inquiries
- Investigate and analyze direct business tax issues, acting as a liaison with various stakeholders
- Interpret laws and policies related to direct business taxes and make implementation recommendations
- Represent the Department of Treasury as a witness during court proceedings involving direct business tax litigation
- Handle informal conferences related to Corporate Income Tax (CIT) and Michigan Business Tax (MBT)
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major
- Minimum of four years of professional experience, including two years at the experienced (P11) level or one year at the advanced (12) level
- Knowledge of Direct Business Taxes, including Corporate Income Tax (CIT), Flow-Through Entity Tax (FTE), and Michigan Business Tax (MBT)
- Ability to pass a fingerprint-based background check due to access to Federal Tax Information (FTI)
- Must reside in Michigan or plan to relocate prior to appointment

- Experience with Treasury tax-related software systems
- Demonstrated ability in drafting forms, instructions, or training materials
- Proven experience in preparing analysis on litigation-related issues
- Strong research skills specific to complex tax-related inquiries
- Familiarity with facilitating communication among diverse stakeholder groups
