What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Lead a team of six commercial attorneys in negotiating and drafting contracts for third-party engagements
- Support the lending partnerships sales team with contract structuring and negotiations
- Oversee all commercial contracts, ensuring compliance with legal standards
- Collaborate on legal matters related to Upstart's business operations
- Balance responsibilities as an individual contributor and a team manager
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial transactions, particularly with in-house sales teams
- Proven experience managing a team of lawyers and legal professionals
- Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills
- Prior experience in both law firm and in-house settings
- Expertise in contract law
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- 3+ years of experience in banking and/or fintech commercial legal matters
- 3+ years of experience at a highly-regarded national law firm
- Familiarity with data privacy issues and true lender/true sale concepts
- Admission to the CA or NY bar
