Director of Development
Helping and Lending Outreach Support - HALOS
Charleston, South Carolina (Hybrid Position)
The Moran Company is pleased to partner with HALOS to recruit the organization's next Director of Development.
Organizational Background
The mission of Helping and Lending Outreach Support , known as HALOS, is to equip kinship caregivers for success, provide resources that support safe and thriving children, and advocate for a kin-first South Carolina. Kinship care is defined as loved ones, primarily family members, caring for a child when the parents are unable to do so.
HALOS was founded in 1997 by Dr. Eve Spratt, a child psychologist and pediatrician in Charleston County, SC, to serve children and youth in foster care. The organization began as a volunteer-led project that mobilized community faith groups to meet the needs of children involved with child welfare services. Recognizing the complete lack of services for kinship families, HALOS began the first direct service program for kinship families in South Carolina in 2007. Since then, HALOS has focused on serving kinship families through comprehensive services, including kinship navigation, caregiver support groups, intensive case management, parenting curricula and educational workshops, connection to legal assistance and other supportive services. In 2023, HALOS provided services to 680 kinship families, with 1,522 children in the tri-county area of Charleston. With the number of children being raised by an extended family member growing 6 times faster than the general population, in 2025 HALOS will expand its services to include an additional 7 counties in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. Currently, HALOS has 15 employees with a budget of approximately $1.8 million that includes support from the Duke Endowment and the South Carolina Department of Social Services.
