      Job Description

      This position is located on the IU Kokomo Campus in Kokomo, Indiana. It is a Hybrid role (3 Days In-Office, 2 Days Remote) with primarily regional travel required.

      The IU Kokomo (IUK) campus is a growing and thriving education hub in the heart of Indiana (approximately an hour north of Indianapolis.) IUK is building excellent educational opportunities for its students, with programs like The Kokomo Experience and You (KEY) providing ‘unique, hands-on opportunities to explore the fields they want to enter after graduation’ and the KEY Center for Innovation, where local businesses, nonprofits and government agencies connect with the IU Kokomo campus.’ With travel abroad programs expanding, new athletic teams coming on board, and growing partnerships with businesses across central Indiana: there’s a lot of excitement surrounding fundraising efforts at IUK!

      The IU Foundation is seeking a new Director of Development to capture the energy and progress on campus and deliver that message to donors and friends of the University. We’re seeking a true, intentional collaborator: someone who is excited to get to know the students, faculty, administration, and community, and be an engaged contributor who brings people together to foster student success at IUK. Reporting to the AVP of Development, Regional Campuses, you’ll work directly with the IU Foundation, IUK’s Vice Chancellor and Assistant Director of Development, faculty, and senior staff to maximize private, charitable support for the Campus.

      As Director of Development, you will create and lead the strategic direction for a comprehensive and coordinated development program. This includes all aspects of fundraising: annual fund, corporate and foundation relations, planned giving, major/principal gifts. and creating a culture of philanthropy throughout IUK. A large majority of your work will focus on cultivating relationships with major gift donors, utilizing the campus’ internal resources and IU Foundation services to ensure a comprehensive and donor-centered advancement program that leads to multiple annual gift proposals of $50k+. By building long-term relationships with donors, business leaders, and other friends of the University, you’ll help further the mission of “IU for All,” creating new opportunities for IUK students for many years to come!

      Qualifications

      Education & Experience:

      • A bachelor’s degree is required; CFRE and/or Master’s degree preferred
      • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in fundraising or relevant experience in complex organization including proven success in major gift development work
      • Combinations of related education and experience may be considered

      Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required:

      • Prior experience in a large, complex, matrixed environment, including evidence of effective strategic planning and implementation of action plans
      • Experience successfully interacting with support staff, academic faculty, and administrative leaders
      • Experience related to all aspects of planning and successfully executing large fundraising campaigns including working with academic leaders and preparing complex gift proposals
      • Possess an ability to work comfortably within an academic environment that possesses many competing interests, priorities, and opinions
      • Proven analytical skills – proficiency at framing and solving complex problems, proficiency in using large databases (e.g., standard fundraising data) for setting goals and identifying opportunities for improvement
      • An understanding of the importance of, and demonstrated success in promoting diversity, equity and inclusion among staff, donors, and volunteers
      • Excellent knowledge of fundraising, as well as demonstrated skills in major and planned gift solicitation and experience with major gift prospect management systems
      • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills (able to tailor communications to multiple audiences such as the Vice Chancellor, major donors, advisory board, and university leadership). Precision, timeliness, clarity, and accuracy in written communication are vital
