OSU Lima is poised to enhance the OSU experience of its students in ways that will enrich the community through innovation, education, and research.
Reporting to the Dean, the Director of Development serves as the chief fundraiser for OSU Lima and leads the Advancement team to include marketing, communications, and web design, to drive growth in alumni and donor engagement and philanthropy and develops and implements long and short-term plans to secure major gifts from alumni, friends, volunteers, corporations, foundations, and other entities that support established objective sand priorities. This position will target a major gift level of $25,000 and above to meet a goal that is commensurate with the Lima campus prospect base.
The Director supports the Advancement model by collaborating with colleagues in other offices across Ohio State campuses to enhance the university’s reputation and deepen relationships with critical stakeholders such as students, faculty, alumni, donors, and partners.
Duties:
Identities, cultivates, solicits, and stewards portfolio of prospects and donors for assigned area(s). Completes work with minimal supervision.
Prospect qualification: builds and manages a portfolio of prospective donors. Develops effective philanthropic arguments. Builds trust and collaborates with partners. Refines gift opportunities. Develops useful, early-stage collaterals. Gets appointments.
Prospect cultivation: identifies donor values, capacity, interests, and key triggers. Effectively uses research. Builds serious engagement with the institution. Sustains donor engagement in the process and deepens engagement through effective partnerships. Develops strategies that build donor trust and identify focal interest.
Prospect solicitation: Raises donor sights and builds context for asks. Develops formal proposals, or other forms of solicitation. Sets ask levels and key project targets. Utilizes effective solicitation techniques to directly solicit major gifts (defined as $25,000 and above) annually with a targeted annual dollar goal commensurate with the Lima campus prospect base. Integrates annual fund and bequest asks with major gift solicitations.
Stewardship: Manages a pool of stewardship prospects. Develops comprehensive stewardship plans and periodic stewardship reports for each donor. Facilitates public and private celebrations. Creates Board/Volunteer acknowledgements. Responds to leadership requests related to stewardship.
Prospect management: builds, maintains, and serves as the primary prospect manager for portfolio of assigned major gift prospects of individuals. Maintains key prospect and benefactor records for relationship building and gift activities through University Development systems and departmental files including Prospect Tracking and Contact Reports.
Hires, trains, and supervises staff to include: directors of marketing, communications, and web design; establishes and monitors goals, provides performance feedback and coaching, and supports professional development; completes annual performance management procedures; manages performance issues; is responsible for using independent, consistent, and fair judgement in exercising authority; develops procedures, assigns and prioritizes work, and ensures that the resources needed to accomplish work are provided.
Serves on the Dean’s senior leadership team . Assists leadership with the development, implementation, and revision of strategies. Works with departmental advisory boards, assists in planning and executing comprehensive campaigns for the Lima campus; recruits, trains and manages volunteers. Participates in ongoing training in basic fundraising activities and strategy. Performs other fundraising duties as assigned as part of a strong Lima Advancement team.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree plus at least five years of fundraising experience asking for and closing major gifts at the $25,000+ level. Ability to travel and work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Commitment to actively engage in the greater Lima region.
Desired Qualifications: Master's degree and 8-12 years of relevant experience preferred. Experience working closely with high-level volunteers, as well as deans, physicians, provosts, and other high ranking academic officers. Experience working at a complex research university.This position is located in Lima, Ohio and offers a hybrid work schedule.
