      Position Overview

      The Director of Human Resources (People & Culture) will lead and oversee the human resources function at OSF, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance with applicable laws and standards. This position is pivotal in driving employee engagement, talent acquisition, and IDEA. The Director of Human Resources will review and determine procedures and policies as they pertain to employees including but not limited to ensuring the employee handbook is regularly updated, training Managers to uphold the values of OSF, ensure accountability across the organization and address all employee relations issues.

      The Director of Human Resources works closely with the Executive Leadership team comprised of the Executive and Artistic Directors and the Leadership team comprised of Department Directors to develop and implement strategic initiatives that support the organization’s mission and guiding principles and to promote a positive workplace culture. The Director of Human Resources manages Union negotiations and grievances.

      Organizational Background

      The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) was founded in 1935 in Ashland, OR, and has grown from a three-day festival of two plays to a nationally renowned theatre arts organization that presents a rotating repertory season of up to 10 plays and musicals, including illuminating interpretations of Shakespeare, other enduring classics, and new works. OSF productions have been presented on Broadway, internationally, and at regional, community, and high school theatres across the country. OSF received the 1983 Special Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre and is one of the largest nonprofit theatres in the nation with three stages, including an outdoor Allen Elizabethan Theatre.

      Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**):

      Program Administration:

      • Provide strategic leadership on all HR-related matters, collaborating with executive leadership and department directors and managers.
      • Develops and implements HR policies, procedures, and programs that align with organizational goals and foster a positive workplace culture.
      • Oversees talent acquisition, including recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies to attract and retain top talent.
      • Oversees Benefits for all employees at OSF
      • Leads performance management processes, including evaluations, feedback mechanisms, and professional development planning.
      • Ensures compliance with employment laws, regulations, and industry standards, updating policies as necessary.
      • Designs and administers competitive compensation and benefits programs, including benchmarking and cost analysis.
      • Identifies training needs and develops employee growth initiatives.
      • In collaboration with the Managing Director of IDEA, Implements and maintains IDEA initiatives to foster an equitable and inclusive workplace.
      • Oversee HRIS, optimizing functionality, ensuring accurate reporting and adequate controls are in place.
      • Develops strategies to enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
      • Leads employee relations efforts, negotiates with IATSE and AEA, addresses concerns, grievances, and fosters a culture of transparency and trust.

      Team Supervision:

      • Supervises, mentors, and supports the P&C team, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
      • Provides ongoing training and development for HR staff to ensure best practices and professional growth.
      • Monitors HR team performance, addressing issues, and recognizing achievements.
      • Collaborates with department leaders on personnel-related documentation and concerns.
      • Ensures compliance with HIPAA regulations, and other relevant laws governing confidentiality and program standards.
      • Develops and analyzes HR metrics to guide decision-making and report progress to leadership.

      Supervision Received: Executive Director

      Supervision Exercised: Two FTE

      Minimum Qualifications & Skills:

      • Five years’ experience in HR leadership roles within complex organizations.
      • Proficiency with HRIS, and performance management systems.
      • Strong knowledge of Oregon state and National employment laws, labor regulations, and HR compliance.

      Education/Licensure Required:

      • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
      • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.

      • Demonstrated expertise in talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation, and benefits administration.
      • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams.
      • Strategic thinking and decision-making abilities with a focus on organizational goals.
      • Experience in designing and implementing IDEA initiatives and fostering an inclusive workplace culture.
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
      • Commitment to ethical conduct, professionalism, and confidentiality.
