      POSITION SUMMARY:

      The Director of Strategy Development programs contributes to PHMC’s thought leadership, strategic plan, and external positioning. Specifically, this role is a key contributor to the vision, strategy, and execution of the centralized strategy development function at PHMC. The Director provides oversight, management, and direction for PHMC’s development and grant writing activities, PHMC’s relationship management system, and program/project development in response to PHMC’s business needs. Additionally, the Director serves as the key leader of programmatic activities, directing and contributing to the positioning of PHMC’s programmatic partners including but not limited to the Pennsylvania Public Health Association.

      This position reports to the Sr. Director of Strategy Development under the Chief Growth Officer.

      RESPONSIBILITIES:

      Strategy Development Operations:

      • Serve as a point of contact for PHMC’s centralized development and grant writing function, coordinating, managing, directing, and executing activity as needed including grant writing.
      • Oversee and manage PHMC’s Strategy Development Coordinator and network of grant-writing consultants.
      • Provide ongoing updates and reports on the funding/grant marketplace at the city, state, and federal levels and coordinate research for new funding prospects, funding trends, and industry developments.
      • Analyze, assess, and make recommendations for PHMC’s participation in grant opportunities, in coordination with program leadership.
      • Lead monthly Strategy Development meetings for PHMC senior program staff and embedded program development resources, with a focus on centralized development management and coordination, new business opportunity identification, PHMC external positioning, and relationship management.
      • Develop and strengthen ongoing relationships with existing prospective grant funders.
      • Supervise communications with foundation, corporate, and government funders to ensure that they are timely, accurate, and supportive of positive ongoing partnerships.
      • Manage the process for standard content and templates to coordinate PHMC’s positioning in all grant writing activities, in coordination across the Communications department and made accessible to program operations.
      • Maintains PHMC’s Grant Management System (GMS) and Opportunity Management System (OMS) to ensure that the Strategy Development team is keeping track of all current, former, and future strategic partnerships and funding opportunities, including regular data integrity checks.

      Individual Giving:

      • Provide oversight and centralized support to PHMC’s individual giving activities for both PHMC’s embedded programs and subsidiaries.
      • Oversee management of gift processing and donor acknowledgement, database updates, and financial reporting.
      • Establish and implement new processes and procedures for individual giving.
      • Serve as a point of contact for donor cultivation and stewardship.
      • Provide technical assistance and professional development to embedded program and subsidiary leaders on individual giving processes and best practices.

      Membership Campaign:

      • Develop membership campaign for statewide initiatives (PANEN and PPHA).
      • Guide outreach and engagement of strategies via newsletter, individual solicitation, and social media.
      • Develop KPIs to track the achievement of desired outcomes and adjust strategy as needed.

      Internal/External Partnerships:

      • Work collaboratively with the Communications team, including design and account management leadership, in support of PHMC’s communications, marketing, and new business objectives.
      • Serve as a key contributor to PHMC’s resources, such as PHMC Intranet and other channels, to ensure the availability and use of such information.
      • Provide touch point for Communications efforts and positioning with external stakeholders, in the areas of writing/presentations and other external-facing efforts, providing content and copywriting activity as needed.
      • Contribute to Association/Agency management for PHMC’s relationship generation for new business development and government relations, i.e. (Chamber, Alliance, others).
      • Contribute to the Communications and Strategy Development team’s initiatives and work on new business development, such as M&A work, working alongside Communications and Strategy Development team members.
      • Participate in meetings with various stakeholders (community groups, provider coalitions, funders, and community representatives) to position PHMC’s efforts and strategize on program development.
      • Deploy to program operations areas, given need and new business opportunities, to help design program development.

      Strategic Planning:

      • Provide support to the implementation of the organization’s strategic plan.
      • Help convene and support staff members engaged in strategic plan implementation work.
      • Provide regular reporting updates to senior leadership on strategic planning activities.
      • With the Managing Director of Strategy Development, help subsidiary organizations develop and implement strategic plans aligned to PHMC’s organizational plan.

      Support Integration of Statewide Initiatives:

      • Direct day-to-day operations of PPHA including hiring and supervision of employees, development and management of the budget, and strategic planning and implementation.
      • Serve as PPHA’s primary contact with the funder and partner organizations.
      • Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance PPHA’s mission and strengthen PHMC’s statewide positioning.
      • Works closely with other PHMC statewide initiatives to integrate across programs in support of a strong statewide footprint and presence.

      Staff Oversight:

      • Supervise multiple staff including Strategy Development Manager and Coordinator.
      • Oversee Public Health interns.

      Strategic Partnership Development:

      • Represent PHMC services at local, state, and national conferences.
      • Work with the Senior Director of Strategy Development to represent PHMC’s technical assistance program among local, state, and national audiences.
      • Direct development and distribution of fact sheets and other educational materials tailored to a variety of stakeholders.
      • Work with PHMC senior leadership to effectively represent the interests of Strategy Development stakeholders to build national, regional, and local support for PHMC public health programs.
      • Actively participate in local, regional, and/or national coalitions for topics supporting PHMC’s programs, services, and client population.

      Organizational Development:

      • Develop new business opportunities to diversify revenue streams to build long-term sustainability of PHMC public health programming.
      • Identify and secure opportunities to sustain and grow funding for PHMC public health programs.
      • Support the Sr. Director of Strategy Development in management of program budgets.

      Diversity, Equity & Inclusion:

      • Develop PHMC public health programming that considers the impact of institutional racism on health and wellness.
      • Encourage diversity and equity in hiring policies and contracting when developing public health program plans.
      • Contribute to the development of metrics and collection of data to help PHMC public health programs measure the impact of its DEI policies and procedures.
      • Participate in required trainings and events to help PHMC public health programs create an anti-racist, inclusive workspace for staff.

      EXPERIENCE:

      • At least 10 years of experience in communication, grant writing, project management, business development, or related
      • Experience in a related field such as public health, education, public administration, etc.
      • Nonprofit experience, or understanding of the nonprofit landscape, required
      • Experience in health and human services preferred
      • Grant writing, with preferred experience in writing and receiving grants
      • Funder relationship management (government, foundation, or other)
      • Experience managing external relationships to organization/agency for funding or new business
      • Ability to work with all levels of the organization seamlessly, from C-suite to front-line service delivery staff
      • Microsoft Office Suite experience required
      • Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system exposure and understanding preferred
