      As Director/Senior Director, Health Equity (HE) Communications, you will play a pivotal role in telling our strong Health Equity story internally and externally, driving action, building awareness and advancing our leading reputation as a company. As part of our Sustainability CA and Global Partnerships team, and working closely with the Health Equity team and across multiple different functions, this role is critical to engage employees and stakeholders and bring to life how our company is contributing to better, more equitable health outcomes for societies across the globe. This role requires a self-starter who is experienced in and engergised by developing strategies, as well as executing high-quality communications and campaigns through hands-on delivery.

      An initial priority will be to use your strong employee engagement and change management capabilities to build internal understanding of the company’s new HE approach and future direction, and how this fits within our overall sustainability strategy. In addition, you will be accountable for:

      • Leading HE communications , developing and delivering a strategic and integrated HE communications and engagement strategy that showcases the progress we are making internally and externally on this critical agenda. You will build stakeholder awareness and understanding of the HE opportunity in our key areas of focus (e.g. lung health, cardio-renal, rare), enhancing our reputation, and ultimately securing of more resources (public, private, academic, philatropic) to advance broader, more equitable health outcomes, with a particular focus on early detection and optimal treatment. Moreover, you will identify and tell human stories and develop compelling and creative campaigns to demonstrate how AstraZeneca is impacting different determinants of health, improving people’s lives across the globe. Partnering with colleagues in Sustainability CA & Global Partnerships, you will communicate via an array of internal and external channels and speaker events & platforms (eg. WEF, World Health Assembly, UNGA).
        You will partrner with communications leads in the Therapeutic Areas as well as regions and identified markets to deliver an integrated HE communications strategy across different levels of the organisation, ensuring alignment in approach and messaging as well as spotlighting local nuances, challenges and opportunities. Experience in communicating with Board and senior leadership, working internationally and across a global, matrix organisation will be critical.

      • Leading communications for our Partnership for Heath System Sustainability and Resilience (PHSSR), as well as developing and delivering a compelling narrative and strategy that supports our wider value and payment policy activities. In doing so, you will work with new and existing external private and public sector partners to align activities, communicate progress and amplify milestones, driving understanding of the need to build more resilient and sustainable health systems for the future. Key deliverables include developing press releases & articles, social media materials, communications toolkits and identification and support of opportunities at high profile events and platforms. Critical in this role will be ensuring communication around PHSSR is integrated into AstraZeneca’s sustainbility agenda through key ESG touchpoints.

      • Act as a subject matter expert to support communications and engagement relating the company’s flagship access, equity and community investment activities and programmes (including Healthy Heart Africa and the AstraZeneca Young Health Programme ) aligned to AstraZeneca’s Health Equity strategy. This will include ensuring alignment in how the company speaks about its contributions in these areas, delivery of key messaging and providing input to meet reporting requirements.

      Your ability to establish strong, trusted partnerships with a variety of external and internal stakeholders and manage competing priorities, often to tight and competing deadlines, will be key to success. You will have excellent knowledge of how health systems work, applying this experience and your insights and learnings to the role, and your passion, proactivity, entrepreneurial mindset and proven ability to deliver high quality communications strategies will help us to achieve stretching, measurable goals.

      In this role, you will be part of AstraZeneca’s ‘Sustainability CA and Global Partnerships’ organization of Global Corporate Affairs, and you will primarily partner with the Global Policy, Advocacy and Health Equity team. You will also represent Health Equity on the Corporate Communications Taskforce, ensuring AstraZeneca’s global network of communicators are aligned on the company’s approach to HE comms externally and internally, aware of activities, and given opportunity to input on strategies and approaches, engaging and leveraging the group to maximise opportunities and support our broader corporate agenda.

      Public health, population health and environmental expert groups

      Medical societies and patient advocacy groups in areas of lung cancer, COPD, asthma, and other lung diseases

      NGOs and philanthropic organisations

      ESG Auditors

      PHSSR private and public partners

      REQUIREMENTS:

      • 10-15+ years public relations and communications experience working in a fast-paced global in-house or agency communications team

      • Expertise in developing and delivering innovative communications strategies including compelling campaigns and narratives that deliver tangible outcomes

      • Skilled in indirect influencing to align and gain support of internal and external stakeholders to support delivery of business priorities

      • Track record of successfully managing complex issues with international dimensions/communications

      • Significant experience of managing different stakeholder relationships and confident at both forging trusted relationships and delivering materials to engage at a senior level

      • Practical understanding of financial reporting and disclosure requirements at a UK publicly listed company

      • Management of budgets and external agencies

      • Understanding of application of corporate brand guidelines

      • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, backed by strong corporate & ESG communications, analytical and digital skills

      • Ability to communicate information effectively and accurately, verbally or in writing across multiple disciplines. Can synthesize large amounts of data and distil key points clearly, succinctly in reports or verbally

      • Sound judgment combined with strong interpersonal and influencing skills

      • Ability to manage conflicting priorities, stakeholder & colleague expectations and deliver consistently high-quality outputs

      • Self-starter with proven ability to work independently and flexibly, think ahead, engage proactively and take initiative

      • Strategic thinker looking outside to bring new approaches to continually reinvigorate outputs and improve the effectiveness of approaches

      • Able to develop and maintain networks across business and cultural boundaries

      • Capable of achieving results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, often on short deadlines

      • Comfortable operating in a matrixed environment
