We are looking for a motivated and passionate individual to join us as a Director/Senior Director Toxicologist with a focus on the next generation of transformative immunology drug projects. You will bring critical immunosafety expertise to the Respiratory & Immunology, Neuroscience, Vaccines & Immune Therapies (RINVI), Safety Sciences within the larger function of Clinical Pharmacology and Safety Sciences (CPSS).

      Accountabilities:

      As an empowered Immunology Toxicologist at AstraZeneca, you will work at the forefront of toxicology and safety science, working in a multidisciplinary and international environment. You will play a key role in progressing our rich and diverse R&I pipeline through discovery, into clinical development and ultimately launch. Your responsibilities include designing and interpreting toxicology research programs, leading the immunological safety and toxicology input to AstraZeneca R&I project teams, evaluating and assessing drug project safety risks and developing risk mitigation strategies. Additional responsibilities include providing expert nonclinical evaluation of in-licensing and out-licensing opportunities, contributing to the delivery of the departmental strategy and objectives, participating in external consortia/symposia, and representing AstraZeneca at relevant scientific venues, and providing mentorship and guidance to early career toxicologists.

      Essential Skills/Experience:

      • PhD in toxicology, immunology, cell biology, pharmacology, Toxicology, systems biology, or related field.
      • Director has 5 plus years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology experience working as a toxicologist.
      • Senior Director has 9 plus years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology experience working as a toxicologist, plus experience providing technical oversight and experience leading teams.
      • High level of knowledge and expertise in Immunology, toxicology, and immunological assays.
      • Established record of scientific contribution in peer-reviewed journals and scientific symposiums.
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
      • Experience with design of strategies and/or execution of in vitro and/or in vivo experiments to determine the safety and/or efficacy of immunological therapeutics.
      • Experience with the nonclinical safety assessment strategy for biologics including bispecific and T cell engager immunomodulatory drugs, immune cell therapy) for Oncology and/or Immunology indications

      Desirable Skills/Experience:

      • Experience with various other modalities (small molecules, siRNAs, ASOs, ADCs, protacs).
      • Expertise in T-cell biology including T reg cells.
