What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Assist in the engineering design of highways and airports on federally funded projects under the guidance of a registered professional engineer
- Prepare engineering studies and assist with the development of project plans, specifications, and estimates
- Lead the engineering design process for low to mid-complexity projects, producing construction-ready documents
- Conduct site inspections and assessments, including travel to remote locations as needed
- Collaborate with public and resource agencies to vet project designs and gather feedback
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or land surveying from an accredited institution
- For Engineering Assistant 2: One year of entry-level engineering experience as an Engineering Assistant 1 or equivalent
- For Engineering Assistant 3: Two years of engineering experience, including one year at the intermediate trainee level
- Valid Driver's License
- Ability to travel to project sites within Alaska, including remote locations
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) certification
- Experience in engineering design within transportation infrastructure
- Familiarity with project management and public engagement processes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of Alaska’s unique geographical and climatic challenges
