ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA VIRTUAL ACADEMIES AND THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST (ELDS) POSITION:
The California Virtual Academies (a network of 9 public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based instruction to TK-12 students in California. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are required to complete approximately 4-6 hours of coursework daily and log attendance. K12, inc. is our curriculum provider.
English Language Development (ELD) specialists meet with students throughout the week in virtual classrooms to provide standards-based targeted instruction based on the CA ELD Standards that meet the language needs of the students, as well as support students in content area coursework, provide additional one-to-one support, and provide curriculum support to homeroom and content teachers. ELD specialists build lasting relationships with their students through consistent outreach throughout the school year and monitor attendance and engagement. Additionally, ELD specialists provide interventions as needed to ensure students remain engaged and grow academically.
ELD specialists' caseloads are generally made up of either elementary (K-5), middle school (6-8), or high school (9-12) students. ELD specialists are required to connect virtually with students once per quarter at minimum and attend one in-person event each quarter. All ELD specialists are required to proctor state testing.
Please Note: Although ELD specialists can be assigned a grade span of elementary, middle, or high school, all interested applicants will need to be willing to teach all grades, K-12.

Our postings are eligibility pools for positions that may arise during the 2026-2027 school year, ONLY. Applications and interviews are for consideration to be placed in the eligibility pool. As our enrollment continues to grow during the year, there is no way to forecast when a position will open up, which is why there are no set number of open positions listed, nor is such information given out.
Please Note: Applications and interviews are only valid for one school year. For each school year an applicant would like to be considered, a new application must be submitted.
