      Job Description

      The role of Enterprise Risk Manager for Old Mutual Botswana is a critical one – we are seeking an experienced individual to support our business to deliver on its aspirations and to help navigate the ever changing regulatory and risk landscape.

      This role is individually accountable for setting policy and risk & compliance strategy aligned to overall Country strategy. The individual is accountable for achieving results through Managers and their teams over periods of up to 3 years.

      Risk and Compliance

      • Ensuring that the risk agenda reflects the most important existing financial and non-financial risks as well as emerging risks; and provides timely and robust analysis to support strategic decision making to drive sustainable growth

      • Accountable for the continued development and implementation of an effective enterprise risk management strategy that incorporates shareholders risk appetite and enables improved strategic decisions

      • Accountable to provide an integrated view of the current and future enterprise-wide risks by remaining fully independent

      • Accountable to review any business capable of impacting the organisation’s risk profile.

      • Accountable to ensure that the data used by the organisation to assess its risks are fit for purpose in terms of quality, quantity and breadth to provide oversight and challenge the organizational systems and controls

      • Recommends and drives the embedment of a country wide enterprise risk management framework for identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring and reporting all enterprise risks across the business.

      • Accountable for identifying risk across the business, monitoring management responses and tracking progress on managing risk.

      • Ensure adequate risk information, risk analysis and risk and compliance training are provided to all employees

      • Report to the EXCO and Old Mutual Botswana Board on the organisation’s risk exposure relative to its risk appetite and tolerance, and the extent to which the risks are inherent in any proposed business strategy and / or plans

      • Persuading management and risk owners to participate actively in the defining of risk profiles, setting of risk appetite, measurement, control and mitigation of risks. This involves educating the business on the benefits of risk management by partnering with the subsidiary and country boards, senior management and industry institutions to bring about an effective change to the enterprise risk management framework

      • Ensuring effective representation of Old Mutual Botswana on local risk and industry bodies, and with key stakeholders including regulators, OMAR and OML.

      • Hold senior management accountable for desired outputs across all business processes and systems while ensuring the regulatory and Old Mutual Group’s internal risk requirements are met

      • Provides oversight for risk management activities across the country, ensuring Group Risk Policy statements are met.

      • Develops country policy, supporting guidance and procedures on risk management to be applied across the country.

      • Provides challenges to risk management information received from reporting entities.

      Forensics

      • Provide administrative oversight over the Forensics activities including

      quality of work and staff development

      • Ensure Fraud Prevention and Detection Strategies are implemented across the Group

      • Review Critical Investigation reports for adequacy

      • Ensure recommendations from forensics reports are implemented

      Business Continuity Management

      • Ensure the Group has an operational Business Continuity Plan and an adequate

      • Business Continuity Management Program

      • Ensure that the IT Function has set up a robust Disaster Recovery approach for critical systems and applications

      • Ensuring that subsidiaries have set up effective crisis management

      • Testing adequacy and effectiveness of the Business Continuity Strategies in place for business operations and technology
