      Novartis is seeking an Executive Director, Head of State Government Affairs to create a favorable business environment in the US through proactive strategic planning and implementation of successful state advocacy initiatives. Lead state government affairs team and collaborate closely with federal government affairs and other Public Affairs functions to achieve business objectives of Novartis.
      This position may be based out of our Washington DC or East Hanover NJ office.

      Primary Responsibilities:
      • Develop and implement the overall state government affairs (SGA) team strategic plan and manage state government affairs execution. These strategies will be a driver in Novartis achieving success in the state advocacy space and will increase the profile of the company in support of the company’s business objectives and reputation.
      • Design and oversee implementation of Novartis state advocacy engagement with policymakers, industry trade associations, and influential policy/political organizations.
      • Identify company opportunities and risks to create proactive plans that will positively affect the company’s public image and standing with key state government officials and stakeholders and will advance organizational objectives.
      • Serve as a counselor and player/coach for the SGA team to empower and enable their efforts on issues and in states of responsibility.
      • Identify and execute strategic opportunities to engage with Federal Government Affairs team and other US Public Affairs functions.
      • Serve on the Novartis US Government Affairs Leadership Team (GALT) and US Public Affairs Extended Leadership Team (USPA ELT).
      • Create, advance and oversee strategy for Novartis corporate and PAC giving at the state level.
      • Manage and develop state government affairs team, budget, consultants, and resource allocation to effectively leverage the strategic growth of the state government affairs team.

      The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $222,400 and $333,600 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors
