What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Actively solicit and acquire manuscripts in various genres, including personal growth, inspirational, self-help, humor, pop-culture, social commentary, and relationships
- Work with authors on concept development and revisions
- Maintain relationships with agents and cultivate new ones
- Collaborate with cover department, publicity, and marketing to reach target readerships
- Coordinate with production and managing editorial departments on editing and design
- Prepare sales materials and support materials
- Stay updated on marketplace trends and contribute ideas for future growth
- Handle daily correspondence, office work, and attend meetings
- Mentor younger editors and provide supervision to an editorial assistant
What is Required (Qualifications):
- At least 7 years of relevant editorial experience in trade book publishing
- Track record of acquiring and publishing profitable, high-quality books
- Meticulous editor with strong communication skills
- Avid reader with interest in current events and religious nonfiction
- Skilled negotiator
- Team player with excellent relationship-building skills
- Detail-oriented and proficient in problem-solving
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience in nonfiction publishing
- Familiarity with Christian thought and spirituality
