- Welcome all visitors upon arrival to the Commissioner’s office.
- Liaison with the Governor’s Office to maintain good communication and make contact as appropriate to arrange meetings, presentations, or to request or pass along information and ensure schedules and calendars are updated to accommodate meeting requests from the Governor’s Office.
- Manage and update the Commissioner’s calendar and email.
- Facilitate providing any requested information in a timely manner.
- Answer phones, screen calls, and direct calls as appropriate.
- Facilitate Commissioner approvals for recruitment and hiring requests. This includes forwarding emails, ensuring responses are provided back to the divisions, tracking requests, and following up on requests.
- Facilitate problem resolution for department customers, which may include politically sensitive, confidential, or complicated issues.
- Manage the travel itinerary, including bookings and reservations, mid-travel support for the Commissioner, and post-travel reconciliation and timely submission of documentation for processing.
- Manage the OOC operational functions such as the budget, accounts payable, procurement, and contract-related activities.
- Supervise the offices’ Administrative Assistant 2.
- The ability to stay focused on numerous details while maintaining high accuracy.
- The ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of people.
- Experience handling changing priorities with multiple interruptions.
- Experience dealing with high-priority, confidential, and sensitive information.
- The ability to function with a high degree of independent action, tact, and discretion.
- Three professional references with current phone numbers (at least one of the references must be a current or former supervisor).
- The two most recent evaluations, if available.

The position is in the Partially Exempt Unit (XE) at range 16This position's starting hourly wage will be $30.53 - $36.40, depending on qualifications.
The mission of the Department of Natural Resources is to develop, conserve and maximize the use of Alaska's natural resources consistent with the public interests.

This position serves as the Executive Secretary to the Commissioner and manages the daily operations of the Office of the Commissioner (OOC). Professionalism, enthusiasm, adaptability, and technical ability are vital in filling this role.Duties will include:

Our Anchorage office is in the Atwood Building, within close walking distance to coffee shops, stores, and restaurants. In-office presence is required. Positions allocated to this job class are in the partially exempt service, in accordance with AS 39.25.120(c)4), and serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.
Desirable Qualifications:
One year of experience as a Secretary or Law Office Assistant with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
OR
Two years of clerical or secretarial experience.
Special Note:
The partially exempt service is established by statute and is subject to the state's classification and pay plan. Positions are exempt from the usual recruitment process and serve at the discretion of the appointing authority.
