Plan and manage all aspects of exhibit creation. This includes long-term, temporary, traveling, and virtual exhibits, learning, and creative spaces within the Nebraska History Museum and historic sites.
Serve as project manager for the development of exhibitions, coordinating with colleagues across departments, outside agencies and organizations, vendors, community partners, and contractors.
Creating a clear framework for exhibit development and processes that will shape all future projects. This should be done collaboratively with colleagues and collaborators.
Oversee the budget for the exhibits department and individual exhibits, maintain financial records, and develop budget plans for each exhibit. Assist in fundraising efforts and grant applications to secure funding for exhibitions.
Creates and manages the exhibition calendar and leads regular planning meetings to identify and approve exhibition topics and plans.
Directs staff, interns, volunteers, work-study students, and contractors assigned to exhibit projects.
Develop methods to evaluate the success of exhibits and conduct audience research to better understand and serve NSHS audiences more effectively.
Develops exhibition agreements with outside partners, other museums, and lenders in consultation with internal stakeholders.
Performs other related duties as apparent or assigned, including but not limited to participating in interdepartmental committees and working groups and community outreach events.
Understanding of exhibit design principles, audience engagement, and the practical aspects of constructing and installing exhibits.
Ability to manage projects from inception to completion, including timelines, resources, and milestones.
Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and ensure timely completion.
Experience in developing and managing budgets, including contracts, costs, and timelines. Knowledge of safety regulations and accessibility requirements for exhibits and public spaces.
Ability to identify and resolve issues during the exhibit planning and execution process.
Strong administrative skills; ability to lead, organize, delegate, and ensure good communication within teams; ability to foster collaboration within internal and external teams.
A solid understanding of U.S. history, with a willingness to learn about Nebraska history from diverse perspectives.
Demonstrated participation in learning or professional development opportunities that increase cultural competence/intelligence/agility and awareness.

The Nebraska State Historical Society is searching for an organized and creative communicator to lead the development of exhibits as Exhibits Manager. The exhibits manager plans, coordinates, and executes the development of all major exhibits, oversees the ongoing upkeep of exhibits, and leads the exhibits team for the Nebraska History Museum and Historical Sites across the state. The Nebraska Historical Society is dedicated to creating engaging and relevant exhibits that bring our collective past together in ways that connect to Nebraskans today, as well as highlight the collections and resources available at the Nebraska State Historical Society.
Job Description:
This role requires strong project management skills, experience with large-scale projects, and the ability to work well with a variety of internal and external partners to develop, prepare, and maintain exhibitions.
The Nebraska State Historical Society is a statewide educational institution that connects people to the past through our library and research center, conservation facility, interpretive sites, and state archaeology and historic preservation offices.
Schedule: Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with occasional events outside these hours.

Job duties
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in history, art, architecture, graphic design, interior design, anthropology or museum studies, plus three years experience in exhibition development, design and coordination.
Other: This position requires travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver’s license or another form of reliable transportation.
Regular and reliable attendance is required.
