      Position Specific Description

      As an External Affairs Manager at Florida Power & Light, you will work seamlessly with our county and municipal governmental officials to cultivate strategic relationships and secure favorable frameworks for our operations. Leveraging your deep experience within the local government sphere, you’ll help reinforce our position as an industry leader and critical community partner. You will also possess exceptional public speaking skills to deliver persuasive and impactful messages, representing Florida Power & Light’s interests at public forums and local events. Familiarity with Miami-Dade County’s political landscape and a basic understanding of FPL’s power delivery system are preferred.

      The employee in this position will:

      1. Maintain relationships with government officials at the local level and act as FPL’s representative for key company initiatives in your area.
      2. Implement effective project management protocols for oversight and execution of FPL projects in your lobbying efforts.
      3. Tactfully manage constituent-related matters, receive and resolve various inquiries and complaints from our elected Stakeholders, and provide responsive, substantive feedback where appropriate.
      4. Mobilize and align internal stakeholders behind legislative and regulatory policy matters.
      5. Arrange public meetings and forums to improve transparency and build community support.

      This is an onsite opportunity based out of Miami, FL.

      Job Overview

      Employees in this role provide the strategic groundwork for the successful implementation of company policies, initiatives, and objectives (expansion, development, etc.) by raising awareness and advocacy to the local governmental, business, and general communities, and through the coordination of the internal and external customers. This position involves navigating issues to comply with company policies, including the change and interpretation of policies. Individuals are responsible for the early detection and resolution of issues that prevent or limit the company’s financial exposure to penalties and fines (violation notices and citations), and protect company investments (nuclear cost recovery, rate case).

      Job Duties & Responsibilities

      • Lobbies by researching, analyzing, and advocating for company positions on pending agenda items
      • Researches, compiles information, makes presentations, and meets with elected officials and Business and Community Leaders to provide information
      • Serves as a Board Member for BDO’s, chambers, corporate/business, non-profits, etc.
      • Works with and across other business units to solve cross-functional problems and to build consensus
      • Analyzes and creates networking and bridge-building opportunities by attending - and inviting stakeholders to attend - company sponsored events
      • Creates opportunities and facilitates and participates in Executive presentations
      • Attends Council or Commission Meetings to monitor or present company business case positions
      • Travels extensively
      • Represents corporate leadership to external stakeholders and in the external community
      • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

      • Experience: 7+ years
