      The DuPage County Health Department is excited to announce a new opportunity to work as an External Affairs Specialist at our Central Public Health Center in Wheaton, Illinois.

      The External Affairs Specialist will provide administrative, marketing and support services to the DuPage Health Matters (DHM) program, promoting and communicating the goals of the DHM program.

      The ideal candidate will have the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, with an established skill in written and verbal communication along with exceptional organizational skills. Other duties include writing, researching, creating and providing presentations, with a know-how in interacting with the public, grant makers, potential donors and community leaders. Considerable skill in developing and maintaining positive and professional relationships with internal and external customers as well as managing multiple projects and priorities will also be a part of this role.

      This is a full-time 37.5-hour work week position, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm. The position performs essential on-site functions and is eligible for hybrid work arrangement.       • Organizes fundraising events and presentations.

      • Schedules meetings, such as legislative, with potential donors and the foundation.

      • Manages external affairs calendar.

      • Tracks deadlines for reports and other correspondence.

      • Follows up on communications for fundraising opportunities, including individual requests, grants and donations.

      • Answers general inquiries regarding DHM.

      • Attends and provides administrative support to meetings as assigned, including preparing agendas and meeting minutes.

      • Reviews and composes general correspondence.

      • Assists in responding to public inquiries; oversees the social media site and develops social media postings for DHM.

      • Provides weekly report on County meetings for the Executive Director.

      • Responsible for daily communication of public health news stories to designated internal and external partners.

      • Demonstrates independent judgement and discretion in making position related decisions.

      • Participates in emergency response activities as assigned.

      • Maintains confidentiality of privileged information; demonstrates sensitivity and understanding of other ethnic groups and cultures.

      • Adheres to department guidelines for attendance and punctuality.

      • Available for timely response to inquiries during assigned work hours.




      High school diploma required. Bachelor's degree in marketing, fine arts or related field is preferred. A minimum of 5 years of experience in marketing, social media, fundraising coordination and administrative support, or the equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable skill in operating a personal computer, applicable software and peripheral equipment; considerable organizational skills.


      ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

      This position requires knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Visio.
