Job Description

- Daily feeding regime of animals to include cows, goats and horses.
- Daily rotation of the animals between stalls, paddock, pasture and barn.
- Preparation of the fields, managing bush and fences.
- Removal and dumping of manure at the LARF.
- Daily maintenance of farm vehicles and equipment including cleaning and securing is done.
- Visit the Mt. Hartman facilities mornings and afternoons for animal feeding and observation.
- Assist Farrier (every 8 weeks) with trimming and shoeing equine animals.
- Assist with Practical sessions and Examinations with faculty and students.
- Provide support during Ambulatory rotation/services.
- Assist with SGU Med/Vet Summer Academy.
- Ability to adapt to changing situations within the working environment.
- Willingness to work as part of a team.
- Demonstrate good communication skills.
- Being in direct contact with farm animals.
- Able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Drivers within the LARF are expected to work in varying conditions.
- In addition, drivers are exposed to other environmental hazards during their daily duties, including animal dung/waste.
- Valid D driver’s license.
- Numerate and literate with the ability to complete basic forms and documents.

Objective
The Farm Assistant / Driver within the School of Veterinary, Large Animal Resource Facility (LARF) performs routine care and management of animal resources and general maintenance of farm equipment and facilities.

Hours and Travel
· A typical work week is 40 hours Monday through Friday, with flexible start, lunch break and end of day.
· No travel is expected for this position.
· Overtime and Weekend work will be as required as needed.
