      The Foundation Partnerships Manager advances Denver Zoo’s mission, and goals by managing a comprehensive grants program to include corporate foundations, government agencies, and traditional foundations. The Foundation Partnerships Manager will identify, define, and develop funding sources to support existing and planned program activities as well as lead the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      Priority 1 – Grant Writing

      • Study and understand the history, structure, objectives, programs, and financial needs of the organization.
      • Draft grant proposals and supporting documents based on the funding requirements of the organization.
      • Maintain positive relationships with funders and other stakeholders.
      • Respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals.

      Priority 2 – Research and Planning

      • Identify government, foundation, corporate foundation prospects, and develop effective solicitation strategies to secure funding for priority initiatives.
      • Strategically link institutions and programmatic initiatives with opportunities for fundraising. Lead or participate in initiatives and workgroups that might result in or impact grant funding.
      • Make informed and well-prepared presentations on major funding decisions, lead conversation on benefits and risks of a particular grant.
      • Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to evaluate prospects for corporate and foundation grants.
      • Follow relevant news and grant trends as it relates to Denver Zoo's needs, including federal and budget processes.

      Priority 3 – Record Keeping and Reporting

      • Maintain records and submit reports for grant opportunities.
      • Collaborate with the Campaign Coordinator to ensure proper management of the grants folder, proposal collateral, reporting calendar, and communications with relevant Zoo staff on specific grants.

      Other Responsibilities and Duties

      • Other assistance, as designated by the Campaign Director to support the overall goals of the department and organization. Denver Zoo retains the right to add or change duties and/or responsibilities at any time.
      • In collaboration with the Campaign Director, create and adhere to an annual budget for the grants program. Acts as a good steward of Denver Zoo’s resources.
      • The nature of this position requires safeguarding against the release of confidential and proprietary information of Denver Zoo.
      • This position will interact with managers at all levels and staff members across the organization, in addition to members of external organizations and the public.

      Technical / Professional Requirements & Qualifications

      • 4-year degree preferred, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
      • Requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience in grant writing and grants management, with at least three of those years leading a grants program in a complex non-profit or equivalent organization is strongly preferred or any equivalent combination of experience, lived experience, and/or special skills.
      • Proven computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Tessitura or equivalent CRM are required.
      • Requires superior organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work and tasks.
      • Requires adaptability to produce and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-task and changing environment, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
      • Must have good negotiation skills and the ability to handle sensitive information with diplomacy.
      • Must be an outstanding communicator and considered to be a developer of programs who is comfortable working and collaborating with a broad cross section of people in direct and matrixed relationships to drive programs to meet strategic goals.
      • Experience applying an equitable analysis to all duties to achieve organizational goals and demonstrate the Denver Zoo’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and anti-racism preferred.

      Position Conditions

      • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
      • Work Location: Hybrid

      • Schedule Availability: This is a hybrid role. Work hours, regardless of whether on or off site, are M-F 8am-5pm. Night and weekend duties are occasionally required to support donor events. These night and weekend duties are scheduled far in advance.

      Compensation

      Range for this position is $5,352 - $6,690 (monthly).
