Job summary
Following a recent management restructure we are looking to appoint a number of General Managers to join our operational team. This is an exciting time to join the team at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust as we embed a new structure with a strong focus on compassionate leadership.
County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest integrated care providers in England, with 7000 staff serving a population of around 650,000 people through 2 Acute Sites, 1 centre for planned care and 5 Community hospitals plus multiple Community based settings and patient homes. We have been given an overall rating of Good, following the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection which took place in December 2019 and have been actively pursuing Outstanding. The Good places us in the top 30% of acute trusts in the country.
As a general manager you will lead a group of services at a senior level assuming overall responsibility for delivering safe, compassionate and joined up care to our patients. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders you will be responsible for service delivery across a number of specialties
Main duties of the job
To meet the needs of this role you will be a senior leader with a proven record of leading teams to deliver high quality patient care. This role demands exceptional leadership qualities, the ability to build credible relationships at all system levels and the tenacity to ensure we deliver high quality patient care through efficient and effective operational services and strategic planning. As one of the Trusts senior operational managers you will demonstrate a flexible, responsive and innovative approach to service delivery ensuring that service demand is met safely and effectively at local and regional level through our ICB partnerships.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

CDDFT is one of the largest Endoscopy and Bowel Screening providers in the region, the service has received significant investment to increase capacity at the Bishop Auckland Hospital site. Cardiology and Respiratory are specialities with the Medicine Care Group. The departments currently provide services to the population of Durham, Darlington and Bishop Auckland. The specialities provide care across 4 acute wards at Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. As well as Cardio Respiratory Investigation Units who provide services at University Hospital of North Durham, Darlington Memorial Hospital, Bishop Auckland Hospital and Shotley Bridge Hospital.
As well as providing acute care for patients we also provide diagnostic procedures within Cardiology and Respiratory across the Trust. The Respiratory Service are currently developing an EBUS Service at Darlington Memorial Hospital which will allow for faster diagnosis and care closer to home.
General Manager - Patient Flow Services
The post-holder will provide leadership and operational management to all teams and services impacting on Patient Flow and will also work closely with the Urgent and Emergency Care General Managers to manage the day-to-day operations relating to flow across the Organisation ensuring robust escalation processes, systems of governance and financial management. The post-holder will work to support the effective and safe flow of patients from admission to discharge and take appropriate actions as required, to ensure high standards are achieved. The post holder will monitor performance both daily and over time and will implement appropriate actions to maintain/improve performance, lead the development of, and continual improvement of patient flow.
