As an Energy Resource Geologist, you will be a key contributor to AGS projects, and provide subject matter expertise to other branches across the AER.

The role requires expertise in sedimentology, stratigraphy, reserve and resource evaluation, production data analysis, and petrophysics. The successful candidate will be experienced in recognizing trends in industrial activity across various resource play types throughout the Province of Alberta. Like all roles at the AGS, it requires open collaboration, teamwork, and someone who strives for continuous improvement in all we do.

What your day-to-day will look like:

      • Apply principles of sedimentology and sequence stratigraphy in the delineation of pools, deposits, and resource plays by collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and validating multi-source data and integrating the data and information using Kingdom Geology and Petrel, with results designed to address regulatory, economic, and environmental issues facing Alberta.

      • Quantify reserve and resource endowment for the Province of Alberta, through geological mapping and characterization, petrophysical evaluation, and production data analysis.

      • Accountable for delivering results through publication of technical reports, maps, digital information, and peer-reviewed literature. Attend courses and conferences to maintain technical competency and showcase AGS project work.

      • Provide subsurface geological support and expertise to other branches in the AER through participation in AER projects or upon request.

      • Regularly scan for, reviews, and provide internal briefings on industrial activity, for the purpose of enhancing AGS’ understanding of oil and gas sector trends and emerging issues related to energy development activities.

What we’re looking for in you:

      • Bachelor’s Degree in geoscience, Master’s Degree is preferred.

      • 5-7 years of relevant industry, academia, or government geoscience experience.

      • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Geoscientist with APEGA is required.

      • A strong working knowledge of Alberta’s subsurface geology, with demonstrated experience in reserves and resource estimation.

      • Experience using Kingdom, Petrel, WellCAD and ArcGIS is preferred.

      • Strong written and oral communication skills to communicate complex geoscience concepts, practises, or approaches to stakeholders.

      • Collaborative team player who values developing relationships and sharing ideas with others.
