What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Review bathymetry data and metadata to assess suitability for navigation product updates
- Investigate submissions from external source data providers to verify validity of data packages
- Process submitted data to OCS standard formats and prepare for ingestion into the National Bathymetric Source
- Participate in the research and development of improved data review and management workflows
- Collaborate with team members to share information and develop best practices in a dynamic work environment
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree in hydrography, ocean mapping, physical science, marine science, oceanography, computer science, engineering, physics, mathematics, or related discipline (4 years of experience may be considered equivalent)
- 5-7 years of experience in GIS, Computer Mapping, and/or Charting fields, and 2-4 years in Hydrography
- Proficiency in data analysis and GIS
- Experience with software development including Python and integrated development environments
- Knowledge of databases and queries in PostgreSQL
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Familiarity with geospatial applications such as QGIS and libraries like GDAL
- Understanding of horizontal and vertical datums and transformations in point and raster data context
- Experience with version control software such as Git
- Knowledge of common bathymetric data formats and their advantages/disadvantages
- Experience in identifying opportunities for effective automation and workflow development
