Job Title: Commodity Manager, Mechanical Commodities
Job Location: Chennai, India -Job Summary:
Commodity Manager is a key leadership position responsible for all aspects of Commodity Management activities, including:
Ensuring continuity of supply for TNL factories and Contract Manufacturers to meet
scheduled requirements and ensure support for upside in supply for product demand.
Driving component cost reductions within the supply base to meet quarterly and annual
targets. Tracking and validating savings flow through and preparing and presenting PPV
results to executive management.
Supporting Development and NPI (New Product Introduction) teams across Trimble
Business Units to ensure Ramp Readiness (SC) Supply Chain contingency plans are in
place to support production start-up.
Developing and nurturing key supplier relationships on an executive level, including
managing executive reviews and score card cadences.
Drive supplier performance and alignment through regular business reviews and
scorecard measurement of supplier KPI’s, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Manage assigned commodities to support Trimble’s Product supply chains of sourced
components from multiple geographical regions to ensure suppliers meet Trimble
performance standards and quality requirements.
Develop and implement Commodity Strategies that provide BIC (Best in Class) SC quality,
cost, LT, capacity and delivery performance.
Negotiate supplier pricing agreements and contracts, including Supply Agreements, LTAs,
VMI, Buffer, Material Float, and Development.
Drive supplier performance via regular Score Card cadence.
Maintain subject matter expert skill set regarding supply base, market trends, and market
impact conditions.
Identify and evaluate new suppliers to support future technical and capacity
requirements that optimize total cost.
Ensure supply chain flexibility, identify potential risks to production and implement
contingency support plans including buffer stock agreements, and VMI programs.
Monitor financial stability of assigned supply base, identify potential risks, and develop
contingency plans to ensure uninterrupted continuity of supply.
Drive cost reductions through negotiation and identification of global leverage
opportunities, multi-sourcing, LCR strategies, design optimization, and yield
improvements.
Support Other Commodity Managers with tasks such as: negotiations, data analytics and
expedites.
Key Skill Set Requirements:
10+ years of progressive experience managing all aspects of Purchasing and Supply Chain. Strong
experience in all aspects of material and purchasing management with emphasis on the following
key areas:
Background and direct experience in Operations, Direct Procurement, and Commodity
Management supporting PLC (Product Life Cycle) from NPI, through production start-up
to EOL (End of Life).
Technical background and Subject Matter Expertise in Electro-Mechanical Commodities
including Batteries, Stamp/Form/Fab, Gaskets/Seals, Flow Control, Precision
Machining, Metal Casting, Cable Assemblies, Connectors, Hardware and others. Need to
understand how to read engineering document GD&T tolerancing and technical
specifications and the required secondary processing requirements.
Subject Matter Expert skills: Power user of Excel, Google Sheets, SmartSheets and must be
proficient in Word, PowerPoint, and Project Management scheduling software.
Articulate written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting cross
functionally and to all levels of management, both internally and to suppliers.
Strong team building skills with experience working with Design Engineering, Operations,
Finance, and other groups in a multinational organization.
Strong negotiation skills with demonstrated history of cost reduction results utilizing
negotiations, reverse auctions, specification optimization, global leveraging, and yield
improvement initiatives.
Demonstrated problem solving and mentoring skills including setting timelines and
diligent follow-up to resolve problems and meet product operations requirements.
Working knowledge of Quality Methods Associated with Designs of Experiments, Gauge
R&R, Process Capability, and Statistical Process Control.
Education / Experience:
BSEE/BSME or BS/BA Business with technical experience.
CPM and/or CPIM certification and strong knowledge of MRP.
Minimum 10+ years of experience in the Purchasing/Procurement area.
Minimum 5+ years of experience in Management.
