De Beers Group (DBG) is a 130-year-old rough diamond mining, sorting and selling organisation, and is one of several businesses within Anglo American plc, a FTSE100, London & Johannesburg listed, global diversified mining company.Within DBG sits the Diamond Trading (DT) business unit which encompasses the sorting, aggregation and sales arm of the group, following the transfer of these functions from London to Botswana in 2012/2013. Diamonds are sourced primarily from DBG’s managed operations in South Africa and Canada, and from mines owned and run-in partnership with the governments of Botswana and Namibia. The goods are then sold predominantly through 10 Sights, sales events, held in Gaborone, South Africa and Namibia to customers referred to as Sightholders.
DT consists of / is directly affiliated with five entities: De Beers Global Sightholder Sales (DBGSS) in Botswana, Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB) also in Botswana (Joint Venture), Namibian Diamond Trading Company (NDTC) in Namibia (Joint Venture), De Beers Sightholder Sales South Africa (DBSSSA) in South Africa and De Beers Group Auctions (DBGA) in Singapore.
By virtue of its role in the organisation, IM is critical in facilitating and enabling productivity across all functions. The absence or interruption of applied IM technology and services would therefore have a material impact on the organisations ability to meet its operational and strategic targets. The purpose of Global Information Management (IM) Midstream, is to enable the delivery of business processes, communication, collaboration and knowledge management through the deployment, support and maintenance of enterprise technology, infrastructure and applications for De Beers Midstream business.
Job Description
The IM Technical lead position fulfils a global role for the Information Management function across the De Beers Midstream. The Technical Lead will provide in-depth technical and development knowledge of the stock management application for De Beers Midstream and serve as a SME by evaluating functional design specifications. The Technical Lead is ultimately responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of development projects according to scope and within the agreed timelines and budget. This includes establishing an effective and efficient development team, implementing structures to ensure team efficiency and the effective management of resources to ensure the delivery of agreed projects.
Technical Skills
• Take ownership and engage regularly with the enterprise and solution architects, to ensure development of applications is within the architectural guidelines
• Have an understanding of the entire application landscape to ensure that all technical solutions that are rolled out, consider compatibility with other environments and dependencies
• Work with functional lead and product managers to ensure prioritisation of incidents, problem tickets and change request
• Contribute to the demand management process, by providing technical effort estimation for code development, for accurate planning
• Work with Functional Lead, to investigate and document root cause of priority 1 and 2 incidents
• Provide technical leadership to a team of software developers, to develop functional solutions to business requirements and break fix requests
• Ensure checked-in code is reviewed to ensure standards are met and the code base is sound
• Ensure rigorous testing of any solution before deployment and create standards and processes in the team to align with these
• Ensure that technical problems are anticipated and dealt with immediately, considering all technical dependencies
• Review event Logs and drive issue to resolution
• Design, build, assemble, and configure application or technical architecture components using business requirements and technical programming standards
• Lead code and quality management reviews
• Own and manage the standardised process for code release into production considering all dependencies to eliminate negative impact on business.
• Manage the activities required by the application team, as part of overall business patch release plan.
• Understand the IT general controls within the application environment and ensure that daily tasks are executed in compliance
• Participate in internal and external audit evidence submissionsSocial Processing Skills
• Participate in any discovery meetings with the business process owners to understand current business processes that need to be incorporated into the stock management system
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on business projects to propose system contribution
• Have the ability to influence thinking on business processes, to ensure standard system functionality is prioritised over customisationLeadership
• Lead the technical team, by prioritising work load according to the product road map and performing quality assurance on code before deployment
• Lead priority incident investigation meetings in collaboration with business and other teams, to ensure resolutions are found in accordance with business service agreements. Log incidents and trouble shoot with Microsoft when required
• Establishes a clear vision for the department ensuring alignment of all teams towards development objectives
• Advises on team structure and staffing requirements based on the objectives to be achieved by the team
• Enforces strict coding standards of team members as prescribed by the vendor development coding standards
• Ensures development code is backed up and team members are adhering to policies
• Responsible for the performance and development management of functional team.
• Define training needs within the team and coach other team members
Safety, Health and Environment
• Lead and participate in SHE Audits, Toolbox talks and VFLS
• Ensure all mandatory training is completed as per learning plansQualifications
• BSc in Computer Science or equivalent qualification
• Microsoft certifications in Dynamics D365 FSC/AX – highly desirable• 6+ years of Software application implementation and support experience, preferable ERP
• Strong 6+ years of micorsoft technical design and development experience – X++, SSRS and BI Reports development (advantage would be experience in D365 F&O)
• 3+ years’ experience in leading a technical team
• Experience in full system development lifecycle
• Experience in product creation and management
• Experience with intercompany activities
• Experience with multiple legal entries management
• Azure knowledge and experience working with and managing cloud environments
• Knowledge of SQL & OData
