- In conjunction with key client representatives, you will be responsible to develop and lead the overall global waste program strategy and execution.
- Connect, collaborate with and/or lead internal team members, fellow subject matter experts (SMEs), client leadership and staff, vendors, and operational site staff to execute on-the-ground waste initiatives that meet or exceed client expectations.
- Demonstrate a high level of subject matter expertise in waste stewardship and circular economy, including advanced knowledge and thought leadership around current trends across various key industries including but not limited to commercial properties, industrial and manufacturing.
- Ability to assemble and analyze complex and extensive data sets as well as present qualitative and quantitative results spanning multiple waste initiatives.
- Ability to showcase leadership, influence and utilize detailed logic during critical client negotiations.
- Ability to lead in developing program and process improvements, strategy and KPI development as well as execute programmatic approaches to consistently meet or exceed established KPIs.
- Responsible for developing and leading multiple global waste initiatives with an elevated level of quality and professionalism.
- Accountable for achieving client waste reduction goals.
- Experience developing and adhering to project timelines, budgets, milestones, and deliverables.
- Experience drafting comprehensive global waste-related reporting, trainings, playbooks, and policies.
- Strict adherence to meeting agreed client deadlines and strong time management.
- Oversight of team members for both desktop and in-field projects such as desktop waste assessments, sustainability program assessments and audits, and gap analyses.
- Experience conducting forensic waste audits and managing associated reporting including identification of primary opportunities to increase landfill diversion upstream and downstream.
- Coordinate alignment in the procurement and deployment of global waste assets, technology, vendors, and programs to streamline program deployment.
- Perform due diligence in vetting potential vendors and other value-added market offerings around waste.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to determine upstream opportunities for waste reduction (i.e., food waste reduction).
- Understanding of current drivers with respect to waste, including global, state, federal and local regulations, pending legislation, external reporting requirements as well as global waste trends.
- Improve upon processes and procedures for waste data collection and monitoring to support data analytics. Ensure adherence and on-going tracking of results.
- Collaborate with data teams to develop and maintain centralized data management tools and resources to aid in:
- Visual waste audit data collection and reporting
- Organization of contract documents for third-party/other waste audits
- Glidepath progress tracking
- Transition data insights into action-based initiatives for regional teams, including establishment of specific and measurable project targets.
- Monitors financial performance of all waste initiatives. Work with team to track and improve performance with proactive use of data.
- Responsible for vetting and supporting innovative strategies (by region, where applicable) including zero waste pilot sites, zero waste certifications, reverse logistics, circular-economy material solutions, streamlined onsite materials management, reduction strategies, vendor takebacks, donation and reuse models, and solutions for difficult-to-recycle materials.
- Research and stay current on industry trends and related regulatory issues to enhance the program, educate, and train teams of associates and subcontractors.
- Optimize relationships with global utility, municipal, and technology partners to improve performance and reduce waste program costs.
- Interface with external global waste industry associations, regulatory agencies, and other partners.
- Ensure programs developed follow all contracts, laws, rules, and regulations governing program activities at global, federal, state, and local levels.
- As needed, ability to travel across portfolio to support program requirements and initiatives.
- As needed, travel to host learning sessions for Amazonians centered around various relevant waste topics.
- As needed, flexibility to work across multiple global time zones.
- Establish strong working relationships with workstreams to deliver against KPI targets, including ongoing progress tracking and reporting backed by validated data.
- Effectively network cross-functionally to collaborate with other JLL service lines on the account (technology, finance, projects, IFM, consultants, and procurement) to elevate the sustainability mission and objectives, and drive implementation where most organic within the business.
- With cross-functional view, effectively manage changes in partnership with stakeholders, which have the potential to impact waste program objectives.
- Ensure success stories are tracked and communicated to ensure an elevated level of awareness and engagement is achieved with regard to the overall sustainability program and client’s success.
- Demonstrate innovative thinking and proactive management in bringing new ideas and solutions to the services delivery, and ensure they are rolled out effectively.
- Provide SME input and own program components (e.g., content development, maintenance) related to SME area.
- Demonstrate deep, results-oriented project management skills and an ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a high pressure, deadline driven environment
- Serve as conduit to WWS on behalf of GREF for:
- Waste reporting against KPI targets
- Knowledge-sharing to leverage successes
- Resolution of identified waste data issues
- Develop Global Waste Playbook to include:
- Foundational waste program overview of key components
- Critical regional considerations
- Training and education resources for Amazonians
- Employee engagement resources for Amazonians (incentive programs, Green Teams, Site Waste Ambassador programs, etc.)
- Associated Hub Page maintained and updated regularly
- University degree, demonstrating subject matter expertise (e.g., Sustainability related degree; Environmental Engineer, etc.); LEED accreditation preferred.
- TRUE Zero Waste Advisor accreditation preferred.
- Ability to provide evidence of senior level project management experience specific to successful achievement of commercial property zero waste programs, within the U.S. and/or globally.
- Other zero waste certification experience, such as UL preferred.
- Knowledge of CDP, GRI, SASB, TCFD, GHG Protocol, rating/ranking agencies, as well as general ESG knowledge
- Seven to ten plus years’ experience in commercial building sustainable operations, waste consulting/advisory, leading and maintaining complex and diverse global waste program operations.
- Strong operations experience in large multi-dimensional global organization with focus on operations management, productivity, and embody a bias for action.
- Strong data management experience, including experience and comfortability in developing and presenting consolidated reports to diverse audience, from operations to C-suite.
- Strong experience specific to waste vendor systems, services, assets/equipment, and vendor management.
- Strong understanding of the impacts and opportunities dictated by varied global and regional geographic infrastructure related to waste processing, waste-to-energy, organics, composting/digestion, material recovery facilities, and landfills.
- Passionate about working towards a sustainable future.
- An excellent understanding of the key sustainability issues for corporate occupiers of real estate including, but not limited to: decarbonization, embodied carbon, circularity, resource preservation, biodiversity, climate risk, health & wellbeing, and social value creation.
- Demonstrated experience in influencing global scale cross-functional teams.
- Experience working with corporate clients, commercial property, property managers and an understanding of the landlord and tenant relationship is desirable.
- Excellent ability to build relationships with clients and their internal teams.
- Ability to communicate difficult concepts and negotiate with others to adopt a different point of view.
- Lead the technical support team to solve complex problems, plan and prioritize deadlines and think strategically to identify innovative solutions.
- Proven project management experience and excellent communication skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in written and numeric work.
- Ability to obtain buy-in and engagement from employees at all levels.
