- Crafting visual elements that can be extensible across a wide range of media and project types, including brand identities, communication campaigns, social media posts, multipage documents, presentations, fact sheets, brochures, and exhibits.
- Creating clear and concise story-driven data visualizations in support of projects as required.
- Collaborating with clients to understand their complete business needs, with a focus on providing the most impactful and meaningful solutions.
- Working with web and print design style guides and corporate identity standards.
- Self-manage schedules and tasks; coordinate and negotiate multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
- Art direct and project manage the output of other design team members and contractors.
- Track and bill time to clients.
- Retrieve and archive files for completed graphics projects.
- Learning, iterating, and evolving with assigned technology/program/client
- Gathering and surfacing insights that shape solutions and innovations
- Scoping project outlines and manage dependencies
- Acting as the voice of the customer when required
- Prototyping flows and experiences
- Collaborating with clients to understand their complete business needs, with a focus on providing the most impactful and meaningful solutions

- Demonstrated ability to build and manage successful multi-disciplinary teams (in a non-supervisory fashion), as well as manage projects end-to-end from a budgetary and client relationship perspective

- A desire to contribute to the broader success of the Communications Office by playing a mentoring and coaching role to other team members

Job Description
NREL’s Communications Office is seeking a visual designer whose contemporary visual language and technical orientation will advance ideas both functionally and emotionally. We are looking for a highly motivated, curious designer who will create meaningful experiences and sustain business growth while communicating our research to the world. This position will primarily serve as Design Lead for several programs related to NREL’s Wind research, and provide additional design support to other technologies, programs areas, and the Communications Office Corporate team.

NREL's Wind research is primarily conducted at the Flatirons Campus. On-site work at the Flatirons Campus is expected 1-2 days per week. Beyond this expectation, this role is highly flexible and allows for work-from-home/hybrid work environments.

Basic Qualifications
Relevant Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Master's Degree and 3 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant PhD or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant JD or equivalent relevant education/experience. Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines. Considerable knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field. Strong leadership, project management and problem solving skills. Ability to use various computer software programs.* Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)
Job Profile: Professional III / Annual Salary Range: $73,200 - $120,800NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
