- The Health Coach will be responsible for delivering health coaching for an NIH funded clinical trial.
- The Health Coach will collaborate with the trial’s Investigators and Research Program Coordinate to implement the proposed intervention and accomplish all study protocols and program goals.
- This position could be shared with another healthy eating intervention, as hours are available.
- Provide regular individual lifestyle behavior change counseling sessions.
- Complete health coach orientation, onboarding, training program, and re-trainings/updates.
- Support development of nutrition and diet-related study materials, including educational information and videos, text messages, etc.
- Participate in quality control procedures for coaching and intervention, including fidelity monitoring on all aspects of intervention to ensure adherence to the study protocol.
- Communicate with the research team about study progress and implementation.
- Assist with developing new social media content for participants, as needed.
- Recognize safety concerns among participants and assist with management and coordination with team and study safety officer.
- Assist in coordinating schedules of intervention sessions with multiple participants.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment and demonstrate positive relationship building.
- Lead development of weekly grocery lists for participants that align with the DASH diet.
- Makes decisions and establishes work priorities. Candidate is responsible for carrying out duties and responsibilities under the supervision of the study Principal Investigator (PI).
- This is a remote position. Candidate can work from a home office or other off-site location that provides a private, uninterrupted environment, and reliable internet access.
- This position is casual. Preferred availability for flexible hours including some evenings or weekend work.
- Candidate must have excellent computer and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and Zoom needed.
- Knowledge of smart phone apps and social media preferred.
- The candidate should possess excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, both in person and over the phone.
- Interest in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Cultural competency regarding the needs of socially disadvantaged populations.
- Excellent references required.
- Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
- Two years of relevant experience.
The School of Nursing is seeking a Health Coach to provide lifestyle and nutrition coaching to adults who have hypertension and low access to high quality food. The Health Coach will provide health coaching virtually over video, phone, or text message, with an emphasis on healthy eating and adhering to the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet. Primary responsibilities include leading health coaching sessions on the DASH diet and uncovering and addressing barriers related to behavior change. The Health Coach will report to the study Principal Investigator and work with the study team to facilitate study-related goals.
About the research study
Access Nourish is a single-arm feasibility study funded by National Institutes of Health that aims to assess the feasibility of delivering a grocery delivery intervention, simultaneous to a robust behavioral intervention, to improve adherence to the DASH eating pattern among adults with hypertension and low access to high-quality food. The intervention includes several components that align with evidence-based behavior change principals, including health coaching.
