What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Perform coding audits of complex outpatient services
- Provide detailed rationale and recommendations for audit findings
- Deliver educational feedback to coding staff
- Collaborate with HIM Outpatient Coding Educator
- Identify and resolve coding issues
- Identify documentation improvement opportunities
- Review and research billing edits
- Interpret coding guidelines and compliance regulations
- Assist with monthly coding audits and reports
- Maintain accuracy and productivity standards
- Train and mentor new staff
- Perform research related to special projects
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Comprehensive understanding of coding guidelines and resources
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Associates degree in Health Information or applicable healthcare field
- 3-5 years progressive coding experience in acute care hospital setting, including auditing
- AHIMA or AAPC certification required (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CIRCC, CPC, COC)
- Experience with Meditech and 3M 360
