What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Review coding quality alerts and billing edits for hospital, outpatient, and ambulatory encounters
- Verify accuracy of assigned CPT codes and diagnosis coding for complex procedures
- Assist in resolving billing edits that hold patient claims from billing
- Serve as a liaison between management, coders, physicians, and other stakeholders regarding coding issues
- Maintain departmental quality standards and prepare productivity logs
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Must have successfully completed an approved coding program or Health Information Management program
- Minimum of five years of coding experience in an acute care hospital environment
- Certification through the American Health Information Management Association or the American Association of Procedural Coders
- Advanced knowledge of coding and abstracting skills
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience with reimbursement principles, including Medicare and Medicaid
- Knowledge of medical terminology, human disease processes, and anatomy and physiology
- Familiarity with coding inquiries and chart corrections
- Active participation in professional organizations related to coding
