What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Accurately code inpatient conditions and procedures according to ICD guidelines
- Assign appropriate MS-DRG or APR-DRG for complex inpatient services
- Review medical record documentation to identify and assign relevant codes
- Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists on documentation and DRG assignments
- Assist in preparing responses to DRG validation requests and inquiries
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Minimum education: AHIMA or AAPC approved Medical Coding Diploma or Health Information Management Degree
- Minimum experience: Three years of progressive inpatient coding experience in an acute care facility
- Active credential of CCS, RHIT, or RHIA through AHIMA or AAPC at the time of hire
- Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and coding principles
- Compliance with federal program participation requirements
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience with electronic health record systems
- Academic or level I or II trauma coding experience
- CIC (Certified Inpatient Coder) certification if credentialed through AAPC
