- Conducts thorough risk assessments to identify potential emergencies that could affect the hospital. Develops and maintains comprehensive emergency preparedness plans, policies, and procedures tailored to the facility's needs.
- Designs and implements emergency response plans to ensure the hospital can continue to function and provide care during a crisis. This includes creating strategic plans for evacuation, sheltering, and resource allocation.
- Organizes regular training sessions and drills for hospital staff and associated personnel to ensure they are familiar with emergency procedures and can act swiftly and efficiently during an emergency.
- Works closely with various departments within the hospital, as well as external agencies such as local government, public health organizations, and emergency services, to coordinate efforts and ensure integrated response activities.
- Ensures that necessary resources, such as medical supplies, equipment, and personnel, are available and appropriately deployed during an emergency. Planning also includes resource tracking and supply chain management.
- Ensures that the hospital’s emergency preparedness plans comply with local, state, and federal regulations and standards, such as those set by the Joint Commission and FEMA.
- Continuously monitors the effectiveness of the emergency preparedness plans by conducting regular evaluations and updating them as necessary based on new information or after-action reports from drills and real-life incidents.
- Works on preparedness for public health emergencies, such as disease outbreaks, ensuring that the hospital can implement infection control measures and manage increased patient loads.
- High school diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred.
- Two or more years of relevant experience in a healthcare background preferred.
- Certification for ICS/NIMS and HICS within 6 months of hire.

Shifts Available: Day Shift (8am to 5pm) Monday through Friday
Location: Providence Medical Center—Kansas City, KS
The Emergency Preparedness Manager at our hospitals at Providence Medical Center and Saint John Hospital is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing emergency preparedness programs. This role acts as a crucial liaison between clinical and non-clinical teams at each location, ensuring that our hospitals are well-prepared for various emergencies and disasters. The position requires collaboration with federal, state, and local agencies to maintain compliance with emergency management standards and best practices.
They will oversee the hospital’s response efforts during actual emergencies, collaborating with the staff during any Hazmat occurrences. This individual will be responsible for coordinating post-incident recovery efforts, ensuring a swift return to normal operations. They will also be attending local emergency management meetings, serving as the main point of contact with local emergency management organizations, public health officials, and other relevant entities.
As you would expect, this individual will need to be familiar with emergency management in a hospital environment and be able to plan and execute regular emergency drills and exercises to evaluate the effectiveness of preparedness plans.
