      Job purpose

      The Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA) is accepting applications for the position of House Manager. The House Manager is responsible for managing the venue by providing exceptional customer service to the patrons, providing management support to the volunteer ushers and ensuring the theatre, lobby and auxiliary locations are safe, clean and in working condition.

      Duties and Responsibilities

      • Responsible for assisting the Assistant Theatre Services Manager and the Theatre Services Manager in providing the utmost in customer service for patrons.
      • Ensure the timely start of theatre productions while managing volunteer ushers and effectively communicating with each show’s production team.
      • The House Manager takes responsibility for their theatre, managing the venue, the volunteer ushers and providing proactive customer care. Trains volunteer ushers on specific responsibilities for their theatre.
      • Ensure the theatre, lobby and auxiliary locations are kept clean and in working conditions. Report any issues/concerns to Manager.
      • Works with the Assistant Theatre Services Manager regarding any patron, noise or temperature issues during the performance that could impact the customer experience.
      • Respond effectively during an emergency, following the Crisis Communications plan and directions from Manager, Security and on-site fire detail or first response personnel.
      • Communicates night-of-show house report notes via standard form. Updates usher skills binder with usher specific notes and trainings as necessary.

      Experience

      • Previous experience working in a cultural facility with culturally diverse personnel and patrons a plus.
      • Remain professional, composed and effective under pressure
      • Present a positive image of the DCPA to the public
      • Strong problem solving, interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with the public
      • Ability to be punctual, reliable
      • Discretion, diplomacy required
      • Adherence to compliance and security and safety procedures
      • Work independently with minimal guidance and as part of a team
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
      • CPR certified and first responder skills preferred
      • Experience managing up to 18 volunteers
      • Crisis Situation Management
      • Must be able to lift 30 pounds
      • Position requires walking, climbing stairs, reading tickets in various forms, using technology including computers, ticket scanners, radios, earpieces and microphones.

      Working conditions

      Front of house, lobby, and theater environment. A portion of duties are likely to be performed in very low lighting.
