Job Description

- Manages receiving and labeling of mother's HM according to procedure. Inputs information into the MOMS barcoding system. Organizes and performs inventory of HM supply for each patient in refrigerators and freezers.
- Cleans work surfaces and equipment prior to HM preparation, and in between each individual patient milk preparation, follows aseptic technique, follows infection control policies, maintains cleanliness of refrigerators and freezers on a daily and as needed basis.
- Prepares individualized HM feedings following established procedures. Performs identification of HM containers using bar code scanning, thaws, fortifies, and labels bottles of HM. Communicates with appropriate nursing personnel for needed assistance with daily order changes and feeding order clarification.
- Stores prepared feedings in patient care unit refrigerators, removing expired HM. Uses proper storage times and temperatures for HM at all times, rotates stored HM to use oldest HM first and to minimize undue wastage. Runs the expired milk report daily.
- Monitors daily inventory and orders additional nutrition room supplies as needed, stocks nutrition room with all needed supplies.
- Monitors refrigerator and freezer temperatures and notifies engineering for assessment of potential/actual problems.
- Participates in department in-services to maintain appropriate competence.
Overview
This is a FTE 0.9, working 36 hours per week, non-exempt role.
Shift: 7am-7pm, every other weekend
Minimum rate: $18/hr
The Human Milk Tech's position is responsible for the preparation, distribution, inventory, and management of both Human Milk (HM) and Donor Human Milk (DHM). Demonstrate competencies relative to infection control principles, appropriate technical calculation (weights and measures conversions, including metrics).

Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent, required.
Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of computer and software. Exhibit basic mathematical skills.
Ability to understand and interpret basic medical terminologies.
